This was very helpful for our 98 Bonneville. Flashing Sec light and not starting. Checking the under dash cons first then into the column to look for pinched/broken wires. The car does start if we wiggle the harness in the column-....

I lost my keys and I have a Buick Century 2003 and I'm trying to switch the ignition how do I do it I don't have the key

DO NOT DO ANY OF THIS WITHOUT DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Leave the battery disconnected for at least 10 minutes before attempting to disconnect the airbag. There is a capacitor that has to discharge. ALSO make sure you discharge yourself by touching metal before attempting to unplug any of the wire attached to the airbag.

Help! The black wire with the brass connector that he removes at 2:14 along with the horn connector, what does that plug into? I can't remember! Can't see where it might go. Finished the job, no problem, but can't remember where that dang brass connector goes.

this job looks like a beast!....What is the actual failure of the lock cylinder? The resistor no longer works?

the white wires are attached to the lock cylinder and they are part of the anti theft system.

I FIXED MINE-EASY: * try tapping the key in all the way with a hammer, try this first!* Thanks for the great video, but I found that I didn't need to replace the cylinder on my '96 century 101000 miles. My ignition cylinder would not unlock-turn and I sprayed wd 40 in to see if that would helped but no. I was about to start tearing it all apart to replace the cylinder because mine is the old design that does not have a simple release hole, but I took a hammer and found the key was sticking and not going in the last bit and the key worked and does now just fine! Hope this helps someone, paying it forward.

Hello BWD! And thanks for the detailed and very thorough video! I have a question related to the topic. The other night would-be thieves apparently tried to steal my 99 Lumina (same key as shown in said video). Most everything seems to be in tact - I'm hoping - with the exception of the "plastic key entry section" of the ignition cylinder and the metal retaining ring/ contact point which I believe the two white wires should be connected to. Q1: Do the white wires belong connected to the black ring? As of now my security light flashes and car dings repeatedly; needless to say, it won't crank. I do have both pieces -the plastic "plastic key entry section" and metal ring which fits inside. Q2: Can you please explain how these white wires connect to the ring. If they go here of course. It needs to be moved from its current location but a tow?! Sheesh! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
