Osgood in that playoff year just let no bad circumstance get to him, just goes out and dominates the next game. Gotta love Ozzy in the 98 playoffs

Osgood is truly underrated

Underrated... to a point. When Osgood was "on," he was in rarified air... like you see in this video. His ceiling was as high as anyone in the league at that time. But when he was "off," holy mother of GOD, was he OFF. He had those moments of falling asleep at the wheel that were absolutely devastating. He definitely had a focus issue, one that ironically wasn't helped by the team in front of him. For example, this video played a graphic where the Stars didn't get a shot on goal for over EIGHT MINUTES of game time. You're talking about roughly one-seventh of the ENTIRE GAME was a stretch where Osgood literally had next to nothing he had to do. There's not many goalies who could keep their head in the game with that sort of lull... and Osgood was definitely not one of them, at least not reliably. At the end of his career... it was enough to be a contributor to three Stanley Cup Champions and a resume that's borderline Hall of Fame. I'm not sure how that's "underrated" in any meaningful sense of the term.

I'd say so. He didn't necessarily "look good" doing it, but he made the saves when he had to. Definitely deserves to be a HOFer.

I think about Osgood the same way I think about Fleury. I don't think he's all that great but he has the numbers and saves to prove it. And a cup as a starter to boot. Idk

That was Brent Gilchrist's last game in that playoff run. He had been playing with a double sports hernia, among other injuries, and was taking a needle in the groin area every game . The other Wings said that they could hear him moaning in pain from the trainer's room.

I have no doubt in mind if Dallas wins the series they win the Stanley Cup. The Wings were just too damn loaded and honestly these two teams were the best in the NHL in the 1998-1999 season

I agree, but the consensus seems to be that he's in the Hall of Very Good. Despite the great memories of Ozzy, he was never elite no matter how much I wish I could see he was. Not elite like Hasek, whom I consider the greatest goalie of all-time, Brodeur, and Roy were. Criteria for the Hall seems to indicate that the player must be one of the best at their position for multiple years, and unfortunately, Ozzy was never one of them. There were always goalies that would be picked ahead of him: Hasek, Brodeur, Roy, J.S. Giguere, Luongo, Kiprusoff. Since Belfour is in the Hall, I do think Ozzy deserves to be in there, too, but there's a definite stigma surrounding Ozzy since he played for the Red Wings, the juggernaut of hockey, and played behind some of the greatest to ever lace up the skates.

He was good but it doesn't help his case when he got benched as many times as he did.. Mike Vernon took his job and they had to go get Hasek because Osgood played like garbage in the 2000 and 2001 playoffs.
