In 1998, Qantas took an unprecedented step and flew the children of The Australian Girls Choir and The National Boys Choir around the world to all the major cities Qantas flew to. The choirs were recorded and filmed singing the Peter Allen song 'I Still Call Australia Home' at each location, as you can see from this video. It was a huge undertaking at a cost of approx $3million but as you can see, it has paid off immensely. My son's friend was one of the lucky children and we would eagerly await news updates from his Mum during the time he was away. It has to be one of the most emotional and iconic songs for any Australian to hear either at home or away.

Written by Peter Allen in 1980, this song is the “expat’s anthem”. The original song starts with New York and Rio, following his hit “I go to Rio”. Qantas didn’t fly to Rio, so the ads refer to Rome instead.

This song holds a special place in Australian hearts The great Peter Allen wrote it and sung it in 1980. It’s has tendency to make us tear up and have so much pride for our homeland no matter where we are in the world as Australia will alway be home for those of us that live aboard, there is another commercial that was done but it starts off with it being sung in our First Nation language it’s so beautiful. I’m grateful every day that I was born and raised in Australia 🇦🇺. I thank God for this beautiful country that is my home. I thank my parents too, my father was Australian, mother was from England and came here to marry my father at the age of 22 after they met in London and would regularly meet at a dance when my father was stationed in England. They were both in the Navy, my father was in the Royal Australian Navy and mother was in the Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS). So my mother got on a ship and travelled here. Shortly after arriving, they married. And as they say, “the rest is history “. 😁 I am a proud Australian, I love our country and us Australians are so lucky to always call Australia home.

@ThatSingerReactions I wished I told you this very soon after you uploaded this a year ago . This isn't just a commercial { for Australia's national airline & it's country - my Mum's birthplace and my adopted homeland } . It's for MANY Aussie's is their unofficial national anthem . I'll send you an updated version of the commercial THAT is more emotional and proves even more how lucky we are Not to live in a suppressive resume such as North Korea 🇰🇵 . I don't know why children's choirs work SO WELL at causing emotional reactions . This song was written by the late great Peter Allen ( who died of aids ) . He wrote it as a patriotic salute to his home ~ Australia , when he was away overseas . When Australia becomes a Republic ( ending ties with the British royal family ) THIS song would be great as it's National anthem . Only better would be John Farnham to write a new National anthem for Australia 🇦🇺 with the same vibe as THIS song 👇 .

Love this ad. Qantas = Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services = an airline. Originally done by the late Peter Allen, Australian songwriter, singer, performer ( married to Liza Minelli for a while) This is like an Aussie anthem. Se beautiful Australian scenery too.

From Wikipedia: ""I Still Call Australia Home" is a song written and performed by Peter Allen in 1980. In it, Allen sings of Australian expatriates' longing for home." Qantas has used it extensively in their advertising and, as you can see in that version, they've used what is essentially a classical cover. As an Australian I can tell you that it's good to see other places but then you come back here and realise that this really is where you belong, where you are at home. That doesn't mean everything about Australia is perfect. I would argue that as we've slid to the right politically we've also gone downhill in regard to human rights. Our record on the environment has not been great. So it's like we're trashing two of our greatest assets recently, our egalitarianism and our natural environment.

Good luck figuring out all those wires Dominic! Yeh it’s a tv commercial for Qantas. This song was also sung by Hugh Jackman, Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman and Russel Crowe when Oprah Winfrey came to Australia! It’s a song every Aussie knows. First performed and written by Peter Allen in 1980.

This song always brings a tear to my eye. Remember being on a Qantas flight as a very young 20 year old coming home from Europe and this song playing as we were landing. The flood of tears! Looking around the plane though I realised I wasn't the only one. That was 21 years ago. Look up the original song by Peter Allen, late, great Australian singer and song writer. Also look up other Qantas ads, nowhere near as great as this one, but still very emotional.

We Australians are sentimental about our major airline. We all love this ad because it reminds us of home when we are away, and arouses gratefulness when we are home. Using this song, a tender love letter to Australia, written by the late great Peter Allen brings a tear to the eye.

This is without question the greatest ad series in Australia. Spine tingles, hair shoots up on the intro before the choir even starts. Everyone associates Qantas with australia before this ad but cemented after, subconsciously everyone picks Qantas flights over anything else if prices are close.

You really would feel “at home” if you came here. I think “I Still Call Australia Home” should be our nation anthem. This is a sweet and heart tugging version of the late great composer, singer, dancer and showman Peter Allen. A larger than life super energetic talent. His version of this, his own song, is a real banger as is one of his other hit songs ' I Go To Rio. ' He would always set the audience on fire with his zest for live performance. It was contagious and the audiences loved to join in with his firecracker vibe.
