I was at this match and remember it like it was yesterday. Absolutely electric atmosphere among the North supporters. I was 11 at the time and pelting marshmallows onto the field at the end of the game was magical. The Roos should have won the Grand Final that year.

Same here, but I was 13. It’s something I’ll never forget is going to the match with Mum and throwing marshmallows at Sheeds after the game. We travelled to every ground in Victoria North played at that year (even the Ansett Cup GF against St.Kilda - what a match that was). I was absolutely devastated after the GF.

@J G You need new material mate. You have been copying and pasting the same text for years with a few, if that, people biting.

Good old Mickey rounding up the crew, loved the Roos back then and looking good again this year. Built up again over the last few years to bring it home again

Awkward placement of the kangaroos label. You can't see the score

+David Copping Hird...Where is he now? Pumping his marshmallows with drugs still probably

Hird was primarily a midfielder who had free reign to go forward, while Carey was the key forward of the team. Obviously, Hird touched the ball more, which meant the umpires tended to give him more votes, particularly with his squeaky clean image. Meanwhile, Carey was often doubled in the forward line, and had a reputation as being a shit stirrer. Even during years when he was favoured to win the Brownlow, the umpires didn't give him votes.
