There was an instructional vhs they sold which I bought. I wonder if that’s somewhere on KZbin lol
@jafafa Жыл бұрын
I have a lot of their instructional vids, but I only upload the demos because the demos are by the maker whereas the instructional vids are put out by one company that does it for many makers and is still at it, sells them, so they're much more likely to get copyright strikes. Plus I was more into the demos that pure instruction anyway.

Wow, Zip Disks were the cutting edge technology of 1998! @:*) I have a VS-840, still use it all the time, now mixing down to my "new" (old) Philips CDR 795. I don't find it as simple and easy as this guy says, glad I have the manual...
@aarons.85328 жыл бұрын
It wasn't as easy as they said, haha. It did help me navigate a digital mixing console when those became a thing, since it was similar.
@forsworn04938 жыл бұрын
I found it pretty simple and I was having zip disk issues so I rigged it to take SD cards

Ahhhh, clever! :*)
@giggenriggens10117 жыл бұрын
how did you rig it? that would make my life way easier 😏
@carlacontini11727 жыл бұрын
Hi, Well at this point I just record and mix all the parts onto the zip disks; save the mix then mix down to the Philips to make CDs. I assume you want to record stereo. Just connect your master out to your digital ins and tell the mix-down deck where to put your mix. The philips CDR 795 has two CD ports so you can copy one CD onto another, so I create a master then copy it. The only problem is figuring out how the VS-840 works -- there are lots of times that I have to go back to that manual!!!

@blue9z - I have to disagree just a little bit. Once you learn this thing it is VERY simple to use, expecially compared to some of todays boards... I sometimes pass up my newer equipment and use this old thing just because I always get such a good sound. The only draw back of this thing is the damn zip drive. If this thing had a hard drive I would use it much more.

I have one of these but the disk wont eject - any help out there?
@Lowdenjim13 жыл бұрын
I've had one since 1998. The zip disk was a cost problem for me back then; they were £10 each. Technological progress & Ebay came to my rescue over recent years; I now have bucketloads of disks that cost me pence. Using one disk for each song is the only way - recording quality set at best and away I go. Ease of use - it IS easy if you are prepared to put a bit of time into studying the manual and putting in some practice. Results - excellent. Endorsements - I get work from a pro musician!

According to a mate of mine who used to be a sound engineer for Pink Floyd years ago. It was all down to bad timing / marketing on Sony's behalf. Who were the original creators of the minidisc. I still have a minidisc player in my studio and a portable minidisc recorder. I was going to fit a minidisc player in my car but it already has a big fascia'd cd player which actually sounds really good !

WOAH.. YEAH DUDE, COOL BABY.. YEEHA !! They don't make em like that any more.. Gorgonzola cheesy !! It's fascinating to see how audio kit has progressed over the years, some have been overtaken, others become classic effects that everyone wants.. like the space echo etc. The one thing I can't understand is why the CD won popularity over the minidisc. The minidisc is far better. They're all rewritable, they're protected inside a case and smaller. CD's as we know, scratch worse than vinyl !!

I used to have an 880. Man, that thing was horrible. I don't think I've ever used a machine with a less intuitive interface. You needed the manual to do virtually anything with it. I replaced it with a korg d16xd and never needed the manual once.

Believe me...this thing ain't that easy to use. Routing apart from "Easy Routing" is horrible (everything is based on a very complex BUS-system). If you want a recording tool for plug-and-play purposes don't go for this one. The same applies to the 880 and the 890. Great internal effects...but that's it.
