It's actually a T45.

That’s why the tool slipped. Just a bit too small.

Hi, my s70 98 had done hydraulic tensioner and new timing belt at the local shop few days ago. All pulleys were replaced. They used Gates timing belt T252 . I have noticed that the belt seats now right on the edges of the cam sprockets. Also the belt on the tensioner pulley sticks out slightly past the outer edge. Maybe a millimeter. The belt itself has some fuzzy debris on the outer and inner edge, not much but considering just few days of riding I thought it's weird. The teeth on the belt look fine, no debris. My old timing belt was spotless. Guys at the shop told me that Gates belts are like that. Is that true? As far as tensioner's pulley having the belt sticking out: Is it possible that they lost the washer, which comes with the pulley on its mounting surface? Is it one of these washers you can remove or it's a permanent one. I am talking about part INA 5310090100 / ZT00901. Car seems to be running fine. The alignment marks on cam sprockets and oil pump are fine too, I checked all of it. What do you think guys? Thanks

'Just did a belt on an old '98 V70 with waaaay too many miles on it's (2nd) belt 127,000m. The timing belt tensioner bolt is a T-45, not a T-40 as posted in the video. And by all means don't money around, if your T-45 bit-socket is not "good" GET ANOTHER ONE. It's a very difficult area and part if bugger up the bolt. I had to go get another T-45 for this car, and I had to shorten the socket a bit to get it in there. Thankfully the bit was hex shank to I could spin it out with fingers and little wrench.

Thanks for the tip on the T45. I was convinced that it was T40. Definitely not an easy bolt to remove at any rate.

if you grab the center of the torx bolt and the outer gold ring around it with a pair of vice grips it will unscrew. Just take your time and breath, dont let frustration overwhelm you haha.

Lucky you. I, on the other hand, had no record of the job. The parts were probably already on borrowed time.

Especially a shallow Torx bolt.

out of curiosity, did you get this timing belt kit from FCP Euro?
@MercedesDieselGuy

Quite possibly. I did buy a lot from them. I also ordered some parts from Rockauto and possibly a third source I can't remember.

I thought so because of the cam lock I see there. FCP euro features that same can lock in their Volvo timing belt videos.

It's an excellent tool, but I actually got the cam lock from IPD. Takes a while to get it to line up properly, but once you do, the job is foolproof.

Yea they seem like pretty easy cars to work on. How does it handle in the snow? Probably not as good as the subaru I would imagine.

Michael Sackstein It handles very nicely. Remember, this car was built by the Swedes, and they know snow.

those can often be the most frustrating problems when bolts get stuck like that!

Even with a t45 it's a pain in the ass, it's a very poorly toleranced fastener.

Drill a hole through the frame rail behind the wheel well liner big enough for socket and extension. Made the job cake!

You're commenting on the wrong video. This isn't a crash test. This video deals with timing belt tensioner replacement.

Hi everyone! Have you observed timing belt on idling Volvo? I found some small lateral movement - about 1mm on my new belt. Please check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqSck2iOZ66eZ7s First part of the video are pictures, second part contains the video while car is idling. Is it acceptable? What do you think? Thanks

Really hard to say, unfortunately. I'm not getting a clear view of the timing belt with the serpentine belt tensioner in the way. I'm also not sure how much give the belt is supposed to have, or the conditioner of the tensioner in there.
