The Bull Ring wouldn’t have survived in 2024. It was falling apart in 1994.

Im all for new and clean, but the new Bull Ring wasnt like for like? It's an ugly building, clad in silver satelite dishes. And it's way too expensive for the small independants. They sold out.

Something the market store holders predicted would happen decades prior. They have also been priced out the area by over priced rent.

@@bullringbirminghamnostalgi2527 But why when it was so good and the row market too.

@@stephenroche5107 One word. Commercialism. Birmingham wasn’t bringing in the tourism and trade it once did. Footfall was almost non existent. The Bull Ring was becoming run down and the area was very dangerous at night. There was a huge market for redevelopment, tourism and trade snd we needed major investment to bring Birmingham back up to speed. So huge investments were made in key of partnership with Hammerson, Donaldson and the council to bring the BullRing site in to the 20th century like the other cities around the country and Europe. And the rest of Brum has followed suit since along with New Street/ A new railway line, modern buildings, bankers and investors and so on. And tbf they was right. We’ve had higher rates of employment and better infrastructure being built since those days.

@@stephenroche5107 I loved the old days. But we had to move on. Nothing lasts forever.

@@stephenroche5107 Put it this way as my own simplified perspective. I moved in to the former home of my Nan and Grandad. I grew up in that house, I loved that house. I had so many happy memories there. But I had to accept that they were gone and they wasn’t coming back. And that home had to change or the condition it was in would only get worse. It was starting to become run down, damp crept in, The guttering was falling apart and some of it was asbestos, It had no wi fi, it was very old fashion looking, The carpets were worn out and it needed a lot of investment to bring it in to the 21st century. It broke my heart to do it but after all that investment it now looks modern and has state of the art technology in the building. I haven’t forgotten that past. I still miss it. I will always love it and I have pictures of those happy days. But I had to move on from it to evolve. That’s just human nature. The world keeps revolving with or without us.
