Jay, I cannot thank you enough for this video. I am 50 years old and just two weeks ago bought my dream car, a Corvette! A 1998 C5 Z51 package with 129K miles. Paid $15K for it. It is in immaculate condition! I really appreciate all you had to say about the C5. I hope to somehow have the honor of meeting you some day and expressing my gratitude and just having the honor too of shaking your hand. You're a legendary comedian and clearly a humble and proud American. You're a hero to so many of us Jay. We all miss you on late night television. God Bless you my friend!

I can tell that Jay loves his C5 as much as I love mine. I bought the last production year of the C5 in 2004 and the car has been flawless. When I first drove it after it was delivered to the dealer from the factory, in April 2004, the acceleration when passing reminded me of my 2001 Suzuki GSF-1200S, The Z51 package that I ordered as an option had the faster accelerating 3.17 rear end ratio, and it was amazing. You just "think" about passing a car in front of you and you're already around it. It was and is a terrific performance car. The fit and finish are superb, and the Machine Silver paint is still beautiful. Thank You Jay for your C5 video.

@@108077854 That's bc all Corvette dip hard in value after 15-20 yrs after they come out, which puts values for later-year previous gen model to early-year next gen models close to each other. Then they start to climb nicely. I have a C4 and see almost none on the road compared to just a couple years ago. Values climbing slow but kind of fast this year

First, as a 22 year- fourth generation GM/ UAW employee, let me say a big thank you! I very much appreciate your honest, selfless promotion of our vehicles and the American auto companies in general. I’m currently looking at possibly buying a C5. This video may have sealed the deal lol. Probably the best bang for buck out there for an all around performance car. I’ve owned many GM performance cars from the ‘70’s to date. Never bought a corvette due to children and needing those extra seats! It has been mostly Firebirds and Camaro’s thus far. I think it may be time for that first two seater😉. Very honest and informative as always. Keep up the great videos Jay. You do a hell of a job speaking and educating us car guys/ gals.👍🏻 Again, many thanks.

I once had a situation where two friends were broken down at night in an unfamiliar area, and needed a ride home. Since I already had a front seat passenger in my C5, we decided to let them try riding in the hatchback area. They actually fit in there, and I got them home about 12 miles away. It was an emergency, so you do what you have to do. The C5 is a great car..

@wavnino1
@wavnino1 3 жыл бұрын
@@Studeb I'm sure I probably wont say anything different then what Jay has said about the C5. The C6 is a fun car to drive and its nimble. I drove a '08 nothing too spectacular. Going from the C5 to C6 it gets a bit tighter, Leg room and cargo space. The C6 is slightly smaller than its predecessor but without a doubt it delivers fantastic power for the price in modern day standards if were talking BHP, even a base C6. The C7 is pretty cool. I wasn't a fan at first but it grew on me. It's the most snug outta the 3. It definitely feels more compact if you're tall like me, the cockpit can feel pretty tight and I haven't drove it on long trips for that reason. When lane changing, looking over my shoulder There was also a blindspot with the Pillar in the C7 as well. But the different driving modes are very fun and enjoyable and on the track if thats your thing. There were times when I would just be on the freeway just fooling with the different modes. Track mode sounds awesome. The interior is a huge upgrade from the C6 (sport seats), The infotainment system is pretty nice the stash compartment is real cool to have. I feel that is the last good Vette if compared to the C8. The C8 design still hasn't grown on me and even seeing it up close and personal I don't think my mind will be changed. Even tho I personally like the C6 more, even with the undesirable interior (dash, the pointless one cup holder) The C5 just has a special charm to it that people gravitate towards. Rather than the C6 and C7, I've received more attention and engaged in more conversation (plenty of times where I didn't want to lol) all when driving the C5 which is mind boggling to me. Its quick and nimble if you've add some minor suspension to it (Z51). It's reliable, gas mileage is superb as you know, especially in this day and age with gas going up. Its actually pretty comfortable with the sport seats, leg room, head space, spacious; very good cargo room as well. There were times I use to actually go grocery shopping in that car. It feels light and all around a blast to drive. All in all, It's a beauty. Theres just something majestic about those pop-up lights and the curvaceous body. The C5 is a classic but you really can't go wrong with either of the 3. It all depends what you're looking for.

When I get behind the wheel of my 2001 ZO6, it is as if I am stepping into my soul. The interior is brilliantly designed: simple, functional and extremely comfortable. @BB-sc9gj C5Z was 385hp the first year then bumped up to 405hp 02-04. On the dyno, there wasn’t much of a difference between the two at the wheel. From most 0-60, 1/4 mile that I’ve seen, the C5Z wins every time. More light weight. The LS3 barely beats it. I love the LS3. C6 ZR1 is still the best vette ever made in my eyes. Absolute dream car. For the base C6, looks are okay. Not the biggest fan of the headlights but they did an amazing job on with going wider body on the C6 Z06, Grand Sport, ZR1. Looks much more aggressive.

It seems like the high water mark for many car makers was the late 1990's. This design has aged very well.

This has been my dream car since i was 10. I’m 31 now and looking to buy a C5. I have a feeling I’ll shed a tear or 2 once i actually sit in it with the keys.

I really miss my C5. Mine was a 2001 6 speed manual. The performance for the money was untouchable along with the reliability and looks. It's one of the cars that are old now but still get the looks from kids and adults alike. It got amazing fuel mileage and was very user friendly. You could (and I did) daily drive it. It was my achievable dream car, and I'm so glad I did own one. I ended up selling it for about what I paid for it years later.

I bought my 2001 C5 nearly 2 years ago now, for $14,900, low miles, 2 owners, 6 speed, and beautifully maintained. I've put 10,000 miles on it now myself and only needed to change the oil. Hands down my favorite generation of Corvette (blame nostalgia goggles for that) but I couldn't be happier with the car! I don't think I'll ever want to part with it.

The last time I wiped my oily hands on my pants at a gas station fill up (honestly didn’t see they were out of paper towels before checking my oil) my wife looked at me like I was crazy. Thanks for the vindication and great video celebrating an underrated and under appreciated legacy nameplate “Uncle Jay”!

Love this channel. The mix of historic, rare, exotic, and usable, affordable classics. Jay, you truly are a car guy's car guy. One week it's a century old steam car, the next week it's a multimillion dollar Koenigsegg, the next week it's a classic Corvair, then an American icon like this Vette. Keep it up, you make the internet worthwhile!!!

Hey Jay, Thanks for showcasing the wonderful C5. I'm 66, own a 2002 Z06 and love it! I'd like to point out the "Old Man hand hold" which is built into the door jam. If you place your right leg into the the footwell you can ease your rear toward the seat while placing the palm of your left hand on the horizontal step built into the door frame which allows you to lower yourself gently into the seat. I'm quite certain the engineers had old guys like us in mind when they built this jewel. BTW, I have autocrossed this car extensively and still hoon around every once in awhile! I love your show....Thanks again!
