You saved me AGAIN!!! 1st was my 98 marquis heater core replacement. Never tried anything close to it and thanks to your video it went smoothly and was a complete success. Saved about $800 in labor costs from my mechanic!!. 2nd was a 97 marquis blend door actuator replacement. I actually installed a pull cable on the door lever not the actuator as to NEVER have to do it again. Saved another $800. Can't thank you enough. Would love to give you a monetary reward but if I could then why would I be doing all this work myself, I'd pay my mechanic. Money is extremely tight and that's why I had to thank you because you saved me $1600 when I needed it most!! Bless you!!

Watched the video and read the comments. Just finished changing the heater core on a 1996 crown vic police interceptor. A few observations. The 96 has extra steel brace on the left inside of the glove box; no problem removing it. It also has the ducts for rear passenger heat that everyone mentions with the Lincolns. For gawd's sake remove the front seats and roll back the carpet as soon as soon as you remove those 2 side panels by the parking brake and ground wires. Trying to do it after you have the whole panel unbolted and loose near the floor requires flexlibility of a yoga instructor. Just assume that if you have rear heat ducting for passengers you have to pull the seats and roll back carpet no matter what model crown vic. Last observation- Lonnie Johnson- You are a MIGHTY MOTORMAN! Thank you for the most excellent video!- you save me a whole lot of $$$$!

Thanks for this very concise instructional video. It was perfect for me to get the old heater core out and replaced in my 99 Grand Marquis with over 255K miles. Interior panel disassembly always takes extra time to find that "hidden fastener"; this video solved that problem on this job for me. Turnkey cost was looking close to $900, but thanks to RockAuto another OEM core cost me less than $80 (plus some coolant and hose). Of course plenty of elbow grease was expended too.

Thank you for this video. Very helpful, saved me a lot of time. I replaced the core in my '93 Mercury Grand Marquis (same car, except for extra sound insulation panels below the dash, and an extra dash mounting bracket to the left of the glove box). One helpful hint. That tiny nut on top of the airbox gave me trouble. The Marquis has extra sound insulation on the firewall which hides the nut. I was working on my own and could not reinstall it , even though I got the box positioned correctly . Instead I used a piece of plumbing support strap bolted to the firewall above the box, wrapped it around the box snugly and screwed it to the plastic underneath the box. This supports the box at top . I installed the 2 nuts below the box and it's as secure as original . Overall this job took me 4 hours thanks to this video, start to finish, despite losing an hour playing with that nut. I could do the job again now in 2 - 3 hours.

98 Ford crown Victoria, int tr: LY, 4.6L V8.... additional bracket on center console; two nut, two bolts partially under carpet. Heat ducts under seats prevent heater box from being slid back. For this vehicle: 1) remove seats 2) roll carpet to expose rear passenger heat duct 3) remove rear passenger heat duct 4) remove center console dash bracket nuts and bolts 5) follow excellent instructions in video!

WOW! You have made an amazing contribution with this video. This is an incredibly ugly job to perform and you single-handedly took the sting out of this astronomically major procedure. Anyone with even the slightest mechanical experience could perform this repair following this video. Be advised, it took me four days at about 2.5 hrs per day SO slow down and take your time and do exactly as the man in this video says. Do not skip steps. have the video with you step by step and you will be just fine. Great video but at the 12:15 mark you do not need a swivel to get the bolt off if u have a long extension because u can push it right through over the white box (blend door actuator) where you pulled the wire. I just did mine today and this video was my guide to getting the job done!!!!!

Just did a Blend Door Actuator replacement job which is in the same spot. This video helped out a lot! One thing to note: on newer models, the shift/gear indicator line is in a similar spot but hidden by the steering column cover. It's worth taking that apart (3x 7/32 bolts and some pulling in my '08) to find and get that off before dropping the wheel. I broke mine but glued it back.

I had to replace the blend door actuater back 3 months ago. I used two friction grip tiedown straps hooked into the Apiller and a bolt hole on lower side of dash and was able to pull dash back by myself. second item was I used a 4 inch by inch board to hold up wirebundle so I could get actuater out and it made getting screws in and out easier. this was on my 02 towncar thanks eric

Thanks to your video I was able to do this today by myself in 3.5 hours. The top bolt that goes through the firewall next to the heater core tubes, will go through to the inside. Once I removed the nut on the outside and everything was apart on the inside, I thought I'd try something. I took a piece of 2x4 and placed up in the ends of the heater core tubes on the firewall. I hit the other end with the palm of my hand and the heater box came right out. I also figured out by just moving the main wiring harness that goes around the bottom of the heater box, you can tilt the heater box towards the seat and the core can be taken out without completing removing the box from the car. Thank you so much for this video. Without it I would have never tried this by myself 😎💪🏻

Hello, not sure if the crown vic you had is different from my 98. but i found it wasn't as simple as taking the 4 bolts off the steering columm and dropping it. there were quite a few electrical connectors that had to be disconnected on mine just in order to drop it without it breaking the cables. Once i had the dash pulled back and unbolted the HVAC box i found it impossible to remove it.. didn't just fall out as yours seemed to have. as others have said on here i had to pull the carpets back & cut into the center air duct with a little saw ( ended up using HVAC tape to seal up the clean cut & found it easier than removing the seats ) that direct heat to the front floor & rear. Only then was i able to get the heater core out fully. thanks for the video though, helped me through mostly all the steps PS to everyone who attempt to do this job it is best to just replace your blend door actuator seeing as its super simple to access once you drop the HVAC box
@LonnieJohnson16 жыл бұрын

Just changed this out on a 1999 Town Car. You'll need to take out the seats and center console so you can pull back the carpet and pull back the ducting that vents air to the rear (sits on top of the transmission tunnel). Then you can proceed mostly like in the video. Tried to remove the dash and the plenum without removing the seats and the ducting to the rear and couldn't get it out.

About to endevour on this journey on my 2005 P71.. Unfortunatly the water froze and now my cars overheating, just temp gauge light.. but no check engine yet so i might be lucky. Heater core is leaking i think.. no coolant on the floor. but fog literally pours out like a ecig. and coolant smearing the glass. killed my tint. the heater core for my 05 is 35 bucks. got to do it this weekend. but with freezing temps now i had to heat up the car, drain the water/coolant and flush it out. then replace the heater core. dont know which job is worse. The coolant doesnt appear to be on the floor. but underneath the car i smell coolant and sometimes see steam from coolant hitting cat. Is it possible its leaking on the interior side of the firewall and draining underneath the car? Im still thinking its the heater core as its the only thing i can think of that is inside the vent tubes.
@LonnieJohnson15 жыл бұрын
Usually when fog steams up the inside windshield it's the heater core and the floor gets wet as well, however if it's sealed tight enough that it hasn't gotten to the floor yet and some how leaking outside you don't have to work on a wet carpet. You can take the heater hoses off and connect them together and see if it's leaking elsewhere.

if the top bolt does not come out of the firewall, put the nut back on the end of the bolt under the hood. use a socket and an extension and, hit it with a hammer. it is held in place between the housing and the firewall with a thin metal retainer.

Quick Question: In reference to the stud and bolts that are in the top left of the airbox Plenum, the one one where the nut comes off from the firewall engine compartment side, How did you get it to come through the fire wall (before attaching it to the airbox?)? Several people say, it won't come through the firewall, even you had trouble, and they ended up unscrewing the bolt from the inside. So.. again, how did you get it to come through? Thanks!
@LonnieJohnson16 жыл бұрын
I had to remove the nut from the inside off of the stud that was connected to the box and with the nut already removed from under the hood the stud just fell out. I have no idea why the stud wouldn't come out while it was bolted to the box. When I reinstalled the stud I bolted it back on to the box first before putting it back through the fire wall. The stud has to be bolted back on the box before you put it through the fire wall, that is the easiest way.

Sounds like a vacuum hose might be pinched or kinked.

+LonnieJohnson1 you forgot about the T30 Torx Bit needed to remove the plate off the back of the steering column, also if the key is turned forward while dropping column it makes it tons easier cause it pivots an swivels much easier then fighting the lock it also forces in easy, also note that the small studs on the bottom of the heater core system, are moveable there not fixed in one place the wiggle. But with all this said I did the whole cooling system all rubber hoses, Flushed radiator.. an put an aftermarket thermostat in that pops at 180 Degrees All Systems are good, no idiot lights. Took me 2 Days.. Taking my time doing it all right.
@LonnieJohnson18 жыл бұрын
+Steven Cerwin I didn't have any T30 Torx, they were all bolts or screws. You must be working on a different vehicle. Like I said in the video, you could probably find easier ways to do this. This video is a guide to show one possible way to do this on a 1999 P71 Crown Vic. Let use know what model and year you r working on?

I did the job on a Grand Marquis. The problem now is that I don’t have heat nor do I have any control of where the air comes out of. It only comes out of the vents now. Any ideas? Did I do something wrong doing the job? Most of the vents work but the one for control to switch off of vents does not. I did not change the temperature door actuator when I did the job because it worked before I did the job and looked OK.

When something is wrong with a vacuum line or low on antifreeze the car has a default system that makes the air come out on the windshield to defrost for safety reasons.

Thanks for the video. It's been super helpful so far. I'm ready to put the box back in but I can't get the upper stud out of the firewall like you suggested. Feels like there's a washer or something on it holding it in place and keeping it from moving either direction. How did you get it out?

Mine came out from the outside of firewall and had a nut on both sides then I mounted it to the box first and then pushed it back through the firewall and put the nut on it.

We watched your video step by step as well as another video showing the same exact steps but after putting everything all back together we put the key in the ignition in the start position and we would only hear a click from the relay.. we checked everything and didn't find anything misplaced. We do have an antitheft lock system which seemed to be the only difference. Do you know anything about how to reset that so we are able to crank the engine?
@LonnieJohnson18 жыл бұрын
If everything was put back like it was the car should crank over. Make sure the wire is connected and your gear shifter is all the way up in park.

I could have used this vid 3 years ago....I did the heater core on my '02 crown vic. I was never able to get that top bolt on the heater box assembly back on...so its basically being held on by the 2 hoses, and one bolt. lol I am just curious....on the drivers side, theres a white vacuum line coming out of the firewall about a quarter inch thick, and about a foot of slack. What does that go to?
@LonnieJohnson18 жыл бұрын
Not sure.
@christopherbrown30008 жыл бұрын
a-lot of the time's seems to be an egr line to control your cruise control. in some form or fasion
@Kimberlyexpects8 жыл бұрын
That white plastic line on the drivers side of the 02 crown vic is the vacuum line for the automatic parking brake release.
@jamesvalenti92888 жыл бұрын
Kimberlyexpects where does it plug into? I could never find the spot
@Kimberlyexpects8 жыл бұрын
I'll bet someone took that out so all you have is the the vacuum line just hanging there. That white plastic line plugs into a vacuum outlet under the hood. And the other end comes through the firewall and over to the brake release at the parking brake. You've got to have the whole set up, not just the white tube. The reason I say it must be disconnected is because if it wasn't you would have a massive vacuum leak at the white hose. If you can live without an automatic brake release, just forget about it. If you must have that working though. You'll have to go to a junk yard and pull the parts you need to put all that back in. It's not hard, but a pain if you're not use to working on cars. It's fairly self explanatory when you look at it all hooked up. And if the white tube is making noise, you have a vacuum leak. Disconnect it under the hood or plug it up tight if you're not going to fix it.
