Never underestimate a 5.9. I don’t get why they are hated so much. Everything has its own issues. Owned my 01 1500 reg cab long bed 4x4 since highschool. 342k miles original engine and trans. Biggest repair was the intake plenum replacement. Has been the most dependable truck I’ve ever witnessed.

My parents used to have a 2003 SLT when I was young , It had the 4.7 in it.. But it was shockingly quick. I have always wanted to get one of these since and lower it with some nice sport suspension. Then put some viper knock off wheels on it. Then do much more to it to make a Viper clone Durango.. Kinda like the SRT-10, but Obviously not with that motor. Just have the looks. When my parents had it I used to BEAT that thing to death doing insane stuff and it took it like a champ.

My 1999 dodge dakota RT is my daily driver vehicle here in new mexico. It lives outside. I'm not gentle with it. i was under it the other day. And it looks a thousand times better than that poor Durango. The rust other parts of the country get, just astounds me. I could easily remove every undercarriage bolt with a wrench and no penetrating oil just crazy.

Yeah I dont live up north anymore.. But I would CRY to see my nice vehicles rusting away.. Its like you pay for them and yet they depreciate so much more. My uncle up in Michigan has these water spray nozzles that are actually piped under the concrete on his drive way, and he pulls the car right to the spot they are set up. Het gets out and goes to the side and turns on the water and its HIGH pressure sprayers in all angles which are set to spray off all his undercarriage. Once its rinsed off, He then pulls it into the garage where it drips off and goes into the drain in the middle of the garage.

It’s crazy how some vehicles have different lives,, I bought my 02 Silverado brand new, ive all ways garaged it, it still looks new ,,the frame still has the stickers on it, I live in Arizona, the frame and body have zero rust, I’ve seen new trucks with surface rust all ready on the suspension parts and parts of the frame just after a few weeks of off roading in wet conditions!

I loved my 99. The 5.2 magnum was surprisingly effective at motivating all that weight. The heater core blew open during some rigorous throttling, and I replaced it myself. Not a task for any of the usual shade tree mechanics. The entire dash needs to come out. And make sure you disconnect the trans dipstick tube from the firewall...

Slt plus, leather seats power everything, rear air, have one with black interior, you missed the stereo control the sound controls on the back of the steering wheel, wranglers came on that original, you got a nice car

Just FYI.. if your first gen durango has leather seats, premium speakers, the infinity system, and fog lights you actually own a slt plus. Factory only put the slt badge on it but it is in fact an slt+

@@MNMoparMinivan if you go to your local dodge dealership you can give them the vin for the durango they can print out the entire build sheet for your durango. What transmission, transfer case, rear axle, front diff etc etc..

I have a 99 Durango Magnum 5.9 that sat for a number of years before I got it and right off the bat crank sensor possibly battery alternator or ignition switch or possibly map sensor has caused it to lose all electrical power to all lights and accessories(dash lights) along with no electrical current to starter. And that's just within the first 6 months of ownership and minimal operation. Because the last thing to happened to it before parking it was as I just mentioned all power to all accessories lights and starter. Show no for sure only possible signs of a faulty fuel pump or filters. I let it charge on high overnight I got the lights and accessories back barely and starter made a clicking noise when tired to crank the next morning so I continued to let it charge for another hour till battery said 100% then tried to start it again then all power was lost again even with the charger still on and hooked up to battery. So I'm assuming it's all electronic related battery alternator or sensor wise. So my suggestion to getting an old Durango up.and running again it's gonna take some serious trial and error and trouble shooting. Along with potentially a ton of money. And those crank sensors are a bastard to get too let alone remove. The love hate relationship with me and that thing has begun lol

Check the plug in on the side of the trans if the connector is loose also the over drive shut off switch on the shifter can be a culprit they were actually pretty good vehicle's the 5.2 and 5.9 were great engineers

Thats what I was reading on a few forums is that connector gets loose/corroded. Thats what I'm hoping for!

Not sure about the deceleration but the clunking could be balljoints going out. Hard to say without looking at it. I would try get the wheels in the air and try shake down the front suspension.

I have a barely over 100,000 mile 97 dodge dakota, WHY the braking system shown on this truck, they were a BAD idea, they were discontinued way a long time ago about five years old for these trucks, you can find brake parts like anti lock front hubs and parts to keep it going if that brake system still works, anything in the internal system is a nightmare, had a brake line break at the lower union block, cant find part one ANYWHERE! have to convert it to 2 wheel antilock,

That's the the Durango with the bigger V8 like the 5.2 or the 5.9 nice we have the same exact Durango in our yard it's the I think it's a 4.6 v8 still runs and drives says 2 with me a very pretty 244,000 MI but it's going to the junkyard because it's way too rotted it's body is a mess it's last ride will be probably going on the back of a flatbed it sucks it was a good vehicle

Transmission is in limp mode. I think that is why it got parked actually. Hindsight tells me that the fuel pump failure is probably from sitting. Who knows though. I didn't get much info about it lol
