Man, how did you score a practically new gem like this? I only know about the SC300's in the mid 90's as they were basically the MK IV Supra, but I had NO idea Lexus had RWD cars like this. It seems absolutely perfect to me, you found a real winner and I hope you keep her in the best shape possible. I roll with an 88' NA Supra myself, at the time that was the best/most luxurious consumer car Toyota ever made.

@@rushnerd It was a matter of knowing what I wanted, and being patient. I took numerous flights and road trips to different regions of the country looking at potential purchases. When this gem finally hit the market, I was intrigued, to say the least. My last one was a red '98 (which I absolutely loved), so the white paint scheme was the only thing I struggled with when I went to look at it. The white has since grown on me.

Absolutely. I remember other cars sold in the 90s. Lexus cars looked like they were from the future. Many cars mfr copied Lexus inside and out without admitting.

I remember seeing the Lexus GS300, LS400 and Sc coupes in all the rap videos in the 90's and I was like damn that car is sexy then I seen them in my city and I was instantly hooked! Now I just appreciate their quality and reliability. I just hope Lexus continues this trend. 🙏🏾

I drive a 1994 sc400, second owner. Sadly it has 200k miles but it runs strong even still. It is the most fun, unique car to drive. Whenever I go out on the road I get stares and compliments. I don’t think I could ever get rid of it. I’m thoroughly committed to restoring this car.

N8ce video, I have an all original 98 SC 400 and I got it 2 yrs ago with 56k miles now at 66k. Great build quality, strong motor and transmission, and a comfortable cruiser. Side note, these V8 cars can reach 120/130 pretty quickly and are stable doing those speeds

Pretty sure EJ Subaru engines are also used. Flight students at Westminster reported to me that’s what their single prop trainer planes were. Maybe not FAA certified..

My dad would have absolutely killed me if he knew how fast I took this car when he let me borrow it. I still feel guilty about that like 17 years later. 😂. This car is perfect blend of luxury, looks, performance, reliability. Definitely one of the best cars ever made.

These aged well. It looks good, it's comfortable, and the mechanicals last. This is a remarkably clean survivor. You could easily take this on a grand tour of the country and it would handle it just fine.

I have a 1997 same color with the gold badging 128,000 on it, second owner with the original window sticker and a folder of maintenance documents from the past owner. The car is so smooth.... I have had at least 4 people ask me if it's for sale. I hope to keep it forever... Everytime I get out of my truck and in the car it reminds me why I want to keep it. Another thing... The city gas mileage is pretty damn amazing 18.5 in the city in a heavy V8 from 1997. Thank you for the giving this car it's dues.

Had a 1992 SC300/5 speed, bought in 2012 with 60k miles. Sold it in 2019 with 100k miles. It was this damn clean as well, same color combo(mine might have been more creamy/tannish). What I loved about that car unlike say a 20 year old Benz or BMW is I could actually drive the damn thing on long trips without it breaking down. The mechanical bits are like a damn anvil, yeah I had a power window motor break, the control arms went bad, the valve cover leaked, but it never left me on the side of the road. All the electronics and dash lights worked like new as well.

I absolutely love my 98 Sc300. It was a dream car of mine for a long time and when I finally found one worth fixing up and restoring, I jumped right on it. My only gripe about the car was the weak braking system. After I upgraded to ls400 4 piston calipers, the car felt perfect! These cars are timeless and are a hallmark of 90s JDM design and culture for sure!

I had a red '98 SC400 years ago before I bought this one. Absolutely love the styling of these beauties! Is yours an auto or manual? I really liked the availability of a manual with the 300s, but I'm a sucker for a V8. I've heard of people swapping the brakes, but two things prevent me from doing it myself. Firstly, I've never experienced any issues with my brakes that make me feel that they are inadequate; maybe I've just been lucky. And secondly, I'm not making any modifications to this one; keeping the body, interior and mechanicals all stock.

@@kevinjones6829 That’s awesome man! So my car is an auto as the manual became discontinued after the 97 model year. However mine is the exact model and configuration I always wanted. 98 2JZ with VVTI, white with the factory gold emblems, and Heated seats. Mine is in rougher shape with some rust spots on the quarter panels due to the previous owner not taking proper care. But I have all intentions on fixing her and getting her back to it’s former glory! The brake issue I had was strange because I had did everything in my power to flush and bleed all the air out of the system but to to no real results. After doing research I found that the brakes become weak over time due to the weight of the car and the calipers being only a 2 piston design. The 4 pot upgrade was very much needed in my case and made a world of difference for every day driving for sure!

@@losdc5185 I'll only buy '98s or newer just for the VVTi engine. I do kind of miss the heated seats in my 98, but as I never really drive it when it's cold, I'll be fine. I do miss the traction control lockout I had in my '98, though. Make sure to take care of those rust spots sooner than later; keep the SC community proud!

Had a '98 SC400 with 138k miles, with a muffler/resonator delete. Best car I ever had, and first taste of Lexus. The premium smell in the leather 😩 twas perfect 🤌🏿

Great Video. I own a 92 with 366000 km on it. Just for added details, Gas tank sits behind the rear seat. Its front MID Engine, full double wishbone front and rear suspension.

I got my is300 earlier this year but at a cars and coffee there was someone selling a sc400 with 114k miles very clean all around. Wish I had the extra money and sold my is300 for it lol. I’d of loved the sound of the sc400

There was a group of guys looking at it and they said something about a friend maybe being interested. I’m sure one of them bought it.

Had a 95 with a full 98 body kit in white with black interior. Only 120k on dash. It turned heads everywhere I went,, when it ran. Unfortunately mines was a mess because it was engine swapped incorrectly with another 1uz. It would randomly cut off and left me stranded a few times. I had it towed to different shops and no one could figure out the issue. $4k and a year of it not running later and I sadly gave up and sold it for $2700. I really miss that beautiful looking and sounding car. If you have one take care of it because these will only go up in rarity and value. I'd honestly buy another that wasn't messed up, but not at the prices that they are asking now lol.

I have a GS400 outside, same color. The outro of this got me hype to go drive it! One thing that wasn’t mentioned in the video, these are 29k summer miles (I hope). I bet this car has never seen snow/salt which is rare in WI!

They are definitely summer miles; I keep her stored in my garage from Mid-November (unless it snows sooner) through April 1st. Even then, I make sure we've had a few good rains to wash away any leftover salt on the roads before I drive it anywhere.

I live in the Midwest, and flew to New England, California and Georgia looking for just the right one. They all had something that deterred me from buying them; bad paint, high miles, broken / missing parts. Can't tell you how excited I was to find this one only 90 minutes away from me. It took a little patience to find her, but the wait was worth it.

After owning both models, I say with confidence that an LS400 feels just about the same to own, drive, and maintain as an SC400. The LS was the original Lexus and arguably one of the best cars ever made.

I love 90s era Toyota and Lexus. We never got this generation of SC in the UK, only the later 430 version which hasn’t aged very well I think. I’d love to import this generation at some point in soarer form.

I had considered importing a Soarer prior to finding this one. The real issue I was having with the imports (and even a lot of local SCs) was that they had all been teenager-a-fied; hacked-up dashes, aftermarket equipment, and massive wear and tear. I hope you find one that suits your preferences; they're a dream to own!

Try to find one with stable , senior ownership , rust-free location , and the basic maintenance records. I found a great example here in Southern California , doctor owned .

I just washed it for the last time of the season last night, and now it will sit in my garage until about mid-April. Currently sitting at 29,867 miles. If I keep driving it the way I have been, it will probably have about 45-50,000 miles on it in 10 years. Gotta drive it once in a while just to keep the suspension from binding up. Not to mention, it's just to fun to drive to just let it sit.

Dude! I know you're young man, but a 2000 Lexus diamond SC still shines and surpasses current day vehicles in many ways. I appreciate the video having owned a 96 SC300 and currently a 96 400. I'll give you a thumbs up on the video, but showing the repro video reflecting something from the period when camera recordings were somewhat poor in quality ain't what I remember in 2000, perhaps early 80's.

Supra w a 1UZ & no forced induction factory option and more weight with a focus on Japanese luxury vs the Supra which is less weight more balanced and Japanese sport oriented coupe’ that was made to compete with the Nissan Skyline, the Mitsubishi 3000GT and other Japanese BEASTS during the 90’s era The Supra was made to be BAD TO THE BONE the Lexus SC400 was made to be cool and smooth! Both coupes but with very different spirits!

The Supra was based from this platform. After the sc300 debuted, the Supra was released. Supra uses same subframes from sc platform. Toyota rebadged this to release the Soarer as well. Difference there is Soarer got more tech and performance parts.

There's no comparison. Alone, the Lincoln was fine, but next to these? Nah...the Lincoln was trash. Everything about the Lexus SC was crafted and assembled better than the Lincoln.Though some can argue the Mark VIII was styled more interestingly or may have been quicker, on the whole, the Lincoln was a lesser car.

I had a Mark VIII LSC (1998), and it was just as quiet as the SC400 but with a better sounding engine (with a bit more power too) and in Wedgewood Blue, a much prettier vehicle. The Lexus did have a better transmission and perceived quality, but I also didn’t have too many issues with my Mark.

@Robert Borne Driven both, and driven both an SC300 & SC400. Hands down, the Lexus was all-around better. Looking around the interior of the Mark VIIIs, it was pitiful. The damn radio was the same head unit as in a Ranger pickup. Things felt cheap and assembly was every bit the same as a Taurus. Not a compliment. After a few years, chrome was delaminating around the bumpers, front and rear. The headliner was starting to sag. The rattles...yeesh. But, hey, that V8 sounds good. The Mark VIII was nice to look at when it debuted. The refresh was nice, too. In the whole, the vehicle was subpar.

LS430 comes with the 4.3 V8 this is the 4.0 V8 1UZ that comes with 290 hp.

I wanted to like this, I still do. But it's the bar of soap styling I can't get past, no matter how dynamically balanced it is. And, having driven other Lexus (Lexi?), I suspect it lacks soul. Now, the RC....

This is the 2nd one I've owned. My previous one was a 98. Can't knock the RC, but as far as the SCs are concerned, I absolutely love 'em!
