Ford Mondeo V6 STW Screaming on Mountain Hillclimb Roads!

This video is about two Ford Mondeo STW (Super Tourenwagen) I recorded during various Italian hillclimb events in the last two years. These cars are powered by a 2.0-liter N/A V6 engine that is able to produce around 300hp at 8,200 rpm.

We call that a Ford Contour here in the states. Most people I see driving them now a days are older folks. The newer Mondeos are called Fusions. Wish we had the estate version. Looks pretty nice.

Mark Meadows It was also sold as the Mercury Mystique. Remember seeing a Contour with the Mondeo body package they offered maybe a year or two before Ford discontinued making Contours. Didn't realize they were still making Mondeo's or that the Fusion was the American version. 👍

Aston Martin has a 6.0l v12 that basically uses two of these engines… they sound pretty similar… the tone of the v12 is higher but the acceleration of the engine is faster in this ford being a smaller engine.

Yes, a naturally aspirated 2 liter Mazda KL V6 engine, with around 300 hp, and revs to 8500 rpm. The rules in Super Touring said that you could use any engine from the family tree, as long it was a 2 liter engine, and had a maximum of 6 cylinders, and since Ford owned Mazda, and already use the Mazda V6 engine in their Probe model, they went with that engine, + that Cosworth were intrested in the high piston area in the KL V6 engine.

They used a version of that V6 in the noble. They called it the Duratec in the states. It wasn’t terribly well received by the consumer to be honest. In my experience it was a reliable and tractable power plant. It was 2.5 and 3 liters as sold over here, later in its life cycle I recall it went up to 3.5 liters

Der Motor, also die Basis ist ein 2 Liter V6 aus dem Mazda Xedos 6. Cosworth wurde beauftragt den Motor komplett renntauglich zu machen. Ich habe Mal auf einer englischen Seite gelesen dass im Grunde nur noch der V6 Motorblock vom original übrig geblieben ist. Bei Cosworth wurden meines Wissens eine spezielle Kurbelwelle, andere Kolben und spezielle Zylinderköpfe für den Umbau angefertigt. Weil der Motor original schon ein Kurzhuber ist, kann er ohne weiteres Drehzahlen von mindestens 8500 Umdrehungen drehen. Eingesetzt wurde er im deutschen STW Cup und in der britischen BTCC. Ich finde er klingt ein wenig wie der Ford Cosworth GAA Motor aus dem Capri RS 3100 😜

Ciao Silvio! Innanzitutto grazie e complimenti. Sempre un piacere vederti in azione e sentire la tua Mondeo (e anche quella di Roider). Si nella descrizione gli "8200 giri" li ho messi per indicare il regime di giri al quale il motore dovrebbe avere il massimo dei cavalli (ho trovato su qualche sito un paio di specifiche) ma sapevo che il limitatore era più alto. Quello che mi stupisce è che non avevo mai fatto caso che la Mondeo di Roider girasse più alta della tua. Ora risentendo due riprese dall'anteriore, l'ho notato, ma con la scusa dello scarico diverso avrei detto che la tua girasse un pelo più in alto di Roider. Ha una tonalità molto più acuta la tua! Bellissima davvero. Ciao! ;)

Wait 2.0L V6???? That doesn't sound right. The V6s only came in 2.5L or 3.0L for taurus but the I4 were 2.0L correct me if I'm wrong but that is at least what they offered for the contour here in the US.

I think the 2.0L V6 was the engine used specifically in the touring cars because of touring car regulations, but it's basically the same engine as the 2.5 duratec with a smaller bore. Don't think it was a commercial option

The engines in the BTCC cars were not Ford Duratec V6 based,neither were they as many sources seem to infer,built from a 2.5 engine,They were built around the already available 2.0 V6 fitted to Mazda's from the KF/KL/K8 family which even had a 1.8 litre version.

Yes, it’s an STW car. He bought it from the famous racecar market (google, you will find it). The engine is a Mazda engine and is called KF-DE in low HP Config, and KF-ZE in High HP Config.

Love Euro Mondeo, Western Contour was a piece of shite! Mostly due to bad parts and finish. Spec for the Contour was dialed down, hell The Mystique put out better Performance be it SVT or not (On the street and track not paper). Automotive Regional Racism is what we all suffer, I want Euro Spec Mondeo Monster, Focus RS Cos., Type-R Civic and all Holdens (Bring them back). Stand up, and let us all fight for Automotive Spec Equality. No, a 2 liter naturally aspirated Mazda KL V6 engine, same engine as in the Ford Probe mk2, but destroked to 2 liters. It produces around 300 hp and revs to 8500 rpm. The engines were limited to 2 liters by the super touring car rules, and all engines had to be naturally aspirated. The rules also said that you could use any 2 liter n/a engine from your parent company as long as it had a maximum of 6 cylinders, and the tuner Cosworth decided to go with the Mazda KL v6 engine since Ford owned Mazda at the time and they used that engine in the second generation Ford Probe, which basically was a rebodied Mazda MX6. He isn't. The car was part of David Wong's Team Petronas Malaysia, which was active from around 1990 until around the 2010's. Another of the Mondeo's they ran in now in NZ and restored back to its original Valvoline BTCC factory colours. I have one of the Mazda RX7's Team Petronas Malaysia ran. Someone has painted it white, but underneath the white it's still yellow and green. The other RX7 they ran is in England, also painted white, and hopefully still yellow and green underneath.
