Rory inspired a lot of bands. He played acoustic guitar, mandolin, saxophone, and had a lot of blues influence. He used interesting tunings, especially his acoustic guitars. He used Celtic tuning since he was Irish, and he's the only slide player I've ever seen use a capo. Lots of good Rory out there.

Rory is a musician's musician - he is based in the blues, but he was also a premier rocker, folk artist with celtic roots, and who he was came through in all he played. Check him out doing Bullfrog Blues live in Paris. Rory is not as famous with the public around the world as other guitar players but he was very well known and respected by other guitar players of the time. He is one of the all time greats. shhhh in kicker:)

Rory was a beast. I highly recommend his Deuce album, especially the track "Used to Be". There's a great 70's live performance from the German TV show Beat Club that is fantastic.

Rory's '61 Strat, one of the most iconic ever, just sold at auction for $1.16 million, and mercifully it will stay in Ireland as a museum piece. While it really really ought to be played, a national museum is still better than having it hang on the wall of a millionaire as a token of wealth.

Ahhh Rory was sick!! Irish tour is the best live album ever in my opinion. Its his real original works. Tatoo'd Lady ,walk on hot coals and as the crow flys are pure masterpieces.

So far, nobody's posted the long-debunked myth that Jimi Hendrix said Rory Gallagher was the world's greatest guitarist. RG doesn't need any such fake stories to prop up his reputation though since his music does the talking for him.
