What is the minimum size a sample has to be to apply an unpaired t-test?

Sometimes people use a rule of thumb of around 10 to classify a small sample size (and thus require a non-parametric test) but there is really no minimum. As long as requirements met: normal distribution etc. but with small sample size, the effect may be small. Can read this too: scholarworks.umass.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1307&context=pare
