Making a candle extinguisher: • Making a candle exting...
In this video I restored an oil lamp which was designed in the 19th century. These type of lamps were called "Frosch Lampe" in german. "Frosch" means frog in german btw. These lamps were also called "Grubenfrosch" which can be translated into "mining frog".
I bought it from an online auction and the seller told me that it was found in a basement of an old house hanging from the wall while the house was renovated. Unfortunately I couldn't find out in which year this particular lamp was made.
Overall it was a fun project even though there was not much variety. Mostly it is like that when restoring brass objects.
The work on the project took about 25 hours (inclusive filming) plus about 25 hours of editing.
If you are willing to support me leave a comment, subscribe and share my work, I really appreciate and it helps me a lot!
I hope you will have some fun watching the video! If you have any further questions on the process, tools, material or else write a comment, I will try my best to answer your questions.
Until next time :)

I absolutely love that you RESTORED this lamp. The whole purpose of restoration is to hopefully get as close as possible to it’s former glory or like new state. If not restoring or keeping all the “age” on the item, you would then just wipe it off and showcase it on a shelf somewhere. But I want to see these beautiful items restored and hopefully around for another 100 or so years. How else can we see, watch and learn from our history or past. Thank you for your hard and meticulous work, it is greatly appreciated!!!! BRAVO, ITS BEAUTIFUL!!!! 👏👏👏👏💯💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸✝️🇺🇸👍👍👍

Amazing work considering the issues you had a while back with your workshop. I think you mentioned breaking something during a restoration, and this must be the video. I think you did the beautiful piece justice by carefully sandblasting and giving it a brushed finish. There was no way to save that patina (corrosion). Thanks for finding such a unique piece for us.

Filing the castingmarks away and removing the patina and hence the historical connection with the past does hurt in a way. I'm glad you didn't give it the epoxy/powdercoat treatment. The craftmanship however is excellent and it's fun to shed some light on a Frosch-lamp 🙂

Nice job, but you are not supposed to grind brass on a grinding wheel. The same goes for aluminium, copper, bronze, etc. Don't take my word for it, check it yourself. Nice post 👍

This time the result isn't good in my opinion ( by the way: your work is perfect as ever) but with sandblasting and cleaning you take away the patina of this peace of history. Now it looks ordinary as all we can buy today ... I'm sorry for ... hope you understand what I mean

I agree. It looks like a modern version of something now devoid of it's character. I do this stuff IRL as a hobby, possibly might make it into a business, and I hate sanding brass parts, but I do polish brass parts because I like the look of polished brass in most instances. I like to leave the surface imperfections as that really looks nicer than today's stuff.
