19TH FEBRUARY 2022 COOMERA RIVER WHITING FISHING

I had another trip down to the Coomera River to try and catch some whiting and while I was confident that I would catch whiting I was surprise at the consistent size quality that I caught.
The majority of the fish were around the 35cm length and I was upset if I caught anything under 30cm.
I have only tried one spot in the Coomera river when fishing for whiting and I think maybe I should investigate other areas to try and find the elusive 40cm elbow slappers.

Hi Steve, It depends on where you are fishing but in the Nerang and the Coomera - just find the banks. I usually fish in 2.5 to 3.5 metres of water on the edge of the sand banks (beacons will tell you where the banks are). In the Nerang there are the usual fishing spots - Council Chambers etc. Just remember to keep on moving if you don't get a legal fish. They say every 20 minutes - sometimes you only have to move 50 metres and you will find them.

@@johnthefishingman That's good mate keep the boat handy, you are like me we have seen a few tides come and go, but this much FRESH WATER is over the top the 74 floods right through till now and such a big area, this SHOULD make for a good NEXT SEASON. Another nice feed John. What a lovely problem to have - upset with anything under 30cm! Not bad when your pots haven't been in long enough to get a feed of crab 'cause you already have enough whiting. Love your form. Thanks for a great video. Hope to see you out there one day.

Hey Tez, I mix it up slightly. I always fillet the fish but usually cook them crumbed and fried or oven baked.

Hi Warren, I have not been there for awhile. Last reports (a couple of weeks ago) they were catching whiting along the Bundall stretch of the river. I did intend to try that area in a couple of weeks but with this rain coming this week, I may have to delay.

@@33454262 Hey Warren, I have only fished the Nerang River a couple of times at night and the quality has been good. The majority of the times I also fish during the day and I have had a reasonable success rate. Yes, it is busier on the water but luckily this does not deter the whiting from feeding.

Hey 6 knots, Where I am fishing in the vid (Coomera River) - I have been told that the run in tide is the best tide. The Nerang River - people claim that the run out tide is the best but I have caught fish in the run in and run out. I use Cribb Island worms for bait,

I am transitioning into retirement at the moment - so I may start to put the hours in again and give them a try.
