This is why as a mechanic I like to use 515 loctite. Its an anaerobic sealant that doesn't dry until you take the oxygen away by pressing the parts together. It works well for hydraulic, transmission and engine oil sealing applications. If you over apply, oil will not break it down as it turns into a harder type jelly and just hangs on the edge. Have never had a leak on any vehicle or agricultural vehicle I've used it on and will sit over night if you run out of time putting things back together but have already applied it to the surfaces. Just a bit of advice for people who may not know what kind of gasket maker to use because not all are good at sealing off fluids.

Great up-close shot of the trans dipstick and equally nice job fully explaining the individual fill markings, while keeping the dipstick in view! Other trans videos skip this very important part and lazily tell viewers to, "check their owners manuals" which totally defeats the purpose of watching their videos - Thanks for posting!

Just to help out anyone else that comes to watch this. Check your fluid while in neutral, not park, like the video says. Everything else was top notch. Great video

I swapped the sump filter and canister filter on my 08 big horn 2 days ago. I added 6qrts and it’s marking at the cold mark. I’ve added 2 more qrts but still marking at cold. I don’t know what to do. I have not tried checking in neutral. Will try that tommarow.

@gavinpickens73548 жыл бұрын
do they not make a actual gasket.I use a gasket and just brush a thin coat of high tack. they make plastic dial pins to help you start the pan on then you take them out and put the bolts in. I don't know though I'm just a country boy raised in a auto body shop.
@ib5166 жыл бұрын
Yes they do. WIx makes a kit with the gasket, and BOTH filters. This guy only changed one filter. The other filter looks like a traditional engine oil filter, and is silver. You can clearly see it in this video.

Always lay gasket material at a 45 deg angle towards the outside of the pan or surface..so it crushes mostly outward when torqued

I have 2004 ram 1500 4.7, based on the Haynes book, says drain and fill takes 5.5 qt. I just pour 4 qt. Without engine started yet. Is it normal to show as full in the hot mark? Just making sure before I start the engine and actual check the level. Or I have to drain it again and re start.

There is a gasket with smaller holes to put bolts up into that holds all the bolts in place While starting to thread them. Makes it real easy. No RTV needed.

Hey there. Please help , I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 4x4 automatic, I have changed all fluids except the transmission now , I am watching your video and it has me a little worried , I bought amsoil fluids for the truck and I want to drain the 6.5 quarts from the pan and change filter , but I have 180,000 miles on the truck . The fluid doesn’t look to bad at all maybe not perfect red like transmision fluid color , but it’s not pitch black or dark brown , or do I feel any grit to it , should I change it or just leave it alone , amd will it be ok for another 200,000 miles or so without serviceing it ??? Thank you
