Thanks for this. Just did mine - 2014 Ram 1500 (6 Speed trans). I ordered the kit off amazon (with 6 quarts ATF fluid). In order for the pan not to fall on me, I included a jack right beneath the pan. When I removed most bolts (except 2/3 bolts on one side) and pryed it free, I gently lowered the jack so the oil would flow down one end and not cause a mess. I reused my Trans Pan. But if you need to replace checkout the Dorman 265-870 Transmission Oil Pan, as it also includes a drain plug which is valuable.

My 1st transmission fluid change on my ‘07 Ram 1500 turned out just like this. I immediately ordered an aftermarket pan with a drain plug.

It’s well worth it to upgrade!

The only tip I want to mention is...The spin on transmission filter comes with the spindle already in it.. BUT the spindle is not tight...its simply hand threaded in there... When you read the instructions it will tell you to put an allen key in the middle and torque it to the proper specs ... since its just loosely place in there. I myself would not of known that unless I read the little instruction book with the kit. Good thing I did because the spindle in mine was very loose .

the drain plug is the magnetic, don’t need the old one. when you drain the fluid, you check the drainplug magnetic for fillings.

thanks for posting this. I am glad my 1500 still has the drain plug. I'd definitely be taking a bath in tranny fluid otherwise. Plus this job, as depicted in the video, pretty much matches what will happen when I try this.

I wish it had the plug in it.

When he dropped the pan and the fluid came flying out I literally said "that's exactly what the hell I would do" lol. I have to drain plug on my 09 ram, but couldn't find any videos about it. Probably because of the filters.

I love the new one has a drain!!! Next time will be MUCH easier lol. No red river :) The only thing I dont like using that gasket maker... Only because its such a PAIN when it comes time to scrape it. I love the new rubber gaskets... They also allow you to start your bolts and it holds them in place. :)

Those filters catch a lot of clutch material from normal wear in 60k miles. A lot of ppl go by how clean the fluid is on the dipstick before they change it but the filters can get plugged before that and you starve the transmission pump or overheat your transmission.

Thanks for posting... I didn't have a plug either in my '11 but was able to not take a transmission fluid bath by leaving a couple bolts in just barely & letting fluid drain out. I see why you threw that POS gasket away. I tried using it & had to redo the whole thing bc it seals for shit. Just trash that thing & make your own

It’s so much cleaner keeping a few bolts in and you know now that seal is trash! Thanks for watching

one thing ill add. use a large piece of cardboard underneath of the truck to avoid using so many towels and a lot of kitty litter

Did I miss it? How many miles are on the truck when you did this?
@FusionOffroad4 ай бұрын
I did it at 120k Miles I did not know when the last time it was done when I bought the truck.

Did this fix the issue? I have a slight slip coming out of 2nd gear I’m at 100k miles I don’t want to change it if it will make it worse
@FusionOffroad Жыл бұрын
It has been a lot better and now at about 50k miles it is starting to come back again

leave the bolts not all the way in to catch the pan so you won’t have to take the read shower of shame 😂

using an impact is stupid when dealing with removal of any bolt smaller than 17mm. The bolts are not grade 8 and can snap from the vibration. Always use a 1/4" drive ratchet instead and pull them off by hand as the threads should have sealant on them to prevent from leaking. 30 years doing it and never once broke bolts doing it by hand. Do the job right.
