This was a fantastic help for me today! I was able to get the rear brakes fixed however getting the drum off was easier than putting it back on...

I just did these with no training at 108 pounds lol. Not much for the upper body strength lol. And honestly...i looked at the video a few times. But only because I was a dingus and tried to do the side with no brackets for the e brake first hahah. Driver side was a pain in the ass but when you do the shoe with the e brake brackets first, it's a little easier. Thank you for this video. Seriously. You are so helpful. My husband is an amazing mechanic; but there's not much he can do to help me from where he is at. I had him on the phone for the first part anf you tied it up for me so thank you. Truly

For anyone who gets the drum brake adjustment screws mixed up ... the left threaded (normal threaded) screw goes on the right side drum of the vehicle , and the right (reverse) threaded screw goes on the left side. Just thought I'd add this since I did this lol.

Lots of viewers picking up on some simple mistakes. I would like to add that when adjusting the shoes, you should put the drum on and hold it down with a couple lug nuts, then push the brake pedal to center the shoes within the drum. This allows you to get a more accurate adjustment on the shoes. You may have to do it a few times, but it's worth the extra effort if you want to do a good adjustment.

I went out to try this myself only to find the brake shoes on my 2004 cavalier look dramatically different than depicted in this video. There is only one spring (horizontal) and instead of the two spring cups, there is a metal w-spring that binds the two shoes together across the bottom two thirds of each shoe. Couldn't get further than that and have found no videos showing that configuration.

I found out your advice to tap on the back of the drum results in pieces of drum coming off sometimes🤣.

The crazy thing is my emergency brake never worked and it never will because there was nowhere to hook it up to trust me I already tried everything. And no one seems to know because well this drum brake set up is different from regular drum brakes.

I replaced the rear brakes And those round little thingies my car didn't come with those. My car came with clips instead of those round silver things. But now my car has its rear brake fixed. The emergency brake still doesn't work but I don't use it anyway so.

Once the new drums are on,put the tires back on and turn the brake shoe adjusters until there is some drag or resistance on the wheel as you turn them. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
