A minute in an I already love this woman! My mother taught me as a kid how to do brakes, oil and fluids. She also taught me a lot of home remedies and being good with my hands. I’m thankful for that because it lead me to where I am today. I love working with my hands and tinkering. I’m here today because I haven’t touched drum brakes in over 20 years. Need a refresher. All of my vehicles have been disk. Super easy. I’ve always found these to be slightly more daunting. FWIW, anytime I go to Home Improvement or Auto shops, I’ll always try to talk to the woman that is working. 9/10 they’re on their A game. They know where everything is and I find them to be more helpful and knowledgeable than the men. Always pleasant and patient. Shout out to all of you bad ass women! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Drum breaks almost never come with the metal tabs that squeak. They do sometimes squeak when the drums surface is really damaged like the ones in the video but driving like that is dangerous

For disc brakes only. Once I hear the warning whistle, as I call it. I start saving money up for the brakes. Depending on how much you drive, or brake,,should be about a month. 2 Easy. But not guaranteed. Gather up the money. And if I have the money already, I go ahead and buy the brakes and throw them in the trunk. I personally will let the warning whistle go for a while. But as soon as the brakes grab hard, within the next seven or or eight days, I replace my brakes.

So a question I was planning on replacing my drum brake on the Corolla 2011. Do I need to adjust the emergency line after doing drum brake?
@jasonpierce19809 ай бұрын
Just put new wheel cylinder brake pads drum on driver side. The old one had a yellow plastic spacer in between the drum and hub.. Turned the wheel bearing and drum get a grinding sound 90% sure it's not the shoes. Pretty sure it's the backing plate. Do I just put a new spacer or is there a way I can figure out where the grinding is on the backing plate and drum? Do you have a video showing this process??

I've never had to adjust a brake cable doing that job unless the brake cable was too loose. And to adjust the brake cables on a system like that,you put on the new brakes, you close the adjustment so that the brake drum slides on uncomfortably but not too tight. Take the vehicle to where you got a lot of room and drive backwards up to about 10 or 15 miles per hour and then slam on the brakes. That will automatically adjust the shoes inside of the brake drum. Caution. Skilled drivers only

I really need help with a nissan 2013. sv with I took it to the shop to check brakes because they were low. Then the mechanic said it need to replace all nrakes in order to give me guarantee of the job. I let him to replace them and the car still the same. So, i took it to Midas they are specialists in brake. and their disgnostic is the master cilinder and they were about to charge me 900 dlls . It is a lot of monet so i decide to do it myself, I replace the master sylinder but i have the same problem. What you can tell me to fix my problem? im desperate. This is my daughters car and i wanted to return ir to her but im frustrated with mechanics that tehy only want to rake advant of ppl.Please help me

#1 Never go to Midas, it's always $900 and honestly I'd avoid all major corporate chain places to look at it. #2 If you've already paid for repairs they should guarantee their work till it's right. Have you told them? Or called a corporate office maybe? #3 What happens when you pump the pedal does it get harder to press or stay low? #4 Have you tried an online forum for your specific model vehicle? #5 You could buy an online Haynes manual as a guide

I just removed both my rear brake drums for the first time ever! My secret. I used my $200 rubber sledge hammer from "Mac's Hardware." It is a 12 lb. Deadblow hammer that is 36" long. The drum had rust welded itself to the shaft that centers your wheel on the hub. 5 good whacks all over and it came right off!

Always remember if short shoe in the front long shoe to the rear. Unless both shoes are the same length on the breaking pad itself. Back in the day they called it a short shoe and a long shoe short shoe to the front long shoe to the rear

Also it's not on size fits all with those tools. I got just one retainer spring tool which has two sides and the larger side was still too small for my F-150, so I used pliers (probably easier anyway) and the plier tool didn't fit around the pin that the 2 top springs attach to. Still got it to work, and with a truck, you really need the right tool cause those springs are strong. I should have bit the bullet and sprang for a tool kit. lesson learned. And I don't think the F-150 has a cable adjuster like the one in this video, you need to rotate the star wheel.
