Helped me a bunch after returning from shop and later realizing the mechanic had placed tire on cable but never cranked it up. Was swinging around, smacking the exhaust pipe. So I needed to crank it up. Saved family member a trip to my house to take care of it. Been so long I'd forgotten how to assemble the crank or exactly where the opening was. Very nice video. TY!

Just an update for you. On my 2011 Ranger, the square end of the rods fits into the lowering mechanism, not the spoon end. This may be the case with other years as well.

I have an 07 and I think I'm having the same issue. Plus it doesn't help that the guy I bought it from twisted one of the rods at the connector

I wish I had checked your comment, spending 10 minutes or more trying to get the spoon to fit. The 2007 uses the square end of rod too.

Well might be a bit late but i did some digging because I honestly didn't know how to lower one of those rear tires (seriously i can build an engine and install it but cant lower a tire lol) and in the trucks where the jump seats are in the side walls of the ranger its hidden behind the passenger side jump seat, i literally just found that out 20 minutes ago, went outside and checked lol

O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 We recently purchased a 2003 Ranger & I thought it would be helpful to watch it. Good tips on being safe & using wheel blocks. I’ve always used a block of wood between the jack & axle/frame when raising the vehicle. I was told to avoid using metal to metal when jacking up a vehicle as much as possible. Some jacks have a notch or indentation in the plate to help keep a tight connection when jacking up. Good stuff. Thanks for taking time to do a good video. 🥰🇺🇸✌️

Can u make this vid for a 1999-2006 Silverado, plus a good tip is to try to lower the spare first so you don't do all that work of getting the tire off if the spare is rusted up to the frame, thanks

Just bought a Ford Ranger, and l was wondering how you put your spare tire on and more importantly how you remove the spare from under the truck. Haha it's definitely different from my KIA! Thank you guys very much for posting this video! Gonna save me some future headaches! Much appreciated! 🙏

Right angle grinder, those things apparently rust in place all the time if you don't take care of them Remember kids, anything thats steel thats supposed to move and isn't moved often will fail unless properly protected and lubricated lol

Thanks for this video! I couldn't figure this out on my own. What I find really annoying about this design is that valve stem is on the top side, so you can't check the air in the spare very easily or refill it.

Thanks for showing me this, so much easier than trying to do it first time with the manual. I had to get the jack out the other day to help a friend, and I couldnt figure out how to get that lugnut one back in, so thanks for showing ALL the details. Except the fun of doing this when the truck is covered in mud, haha!

Wouldn't it make sense to have the spare tire in the carrier with the valve stem pointed downward (rather than upward toward the underside of the truck bed) so that checking/adjusting the air pressure is easier?

I have an 02 ranger and one of my tires went flat the other day. I went to discount tire and had it replaced under the warranty and had the original spare replaced that came with the truck when I bought it in 05. One of the lug nut bolts (where it screws in to hold the tire) that part is stripped and D.T. said to have it replaced. So now I only have 4 bolts on that tire. How expensive is this to fix? Any ideas for an easy fix? Thanks.

+Krissy Sullivan We currently do not have an auto repair video that covers this particular repair on your application. You might have to remove the axle to replace the wheel stud. Thank you for visiting us on KZbin. 1aauto.com
@kiyosenl.38892 жыл бұрын
A liiiiiiiittle too late for you but to anyone else coming across this, its really easy and cheap, just find the proper wheel studs and look up a video on replacing them, its basically just hammering out the old ones and pressing new ones in it's place, id its a front one you just need to remove the rotors, not very hard and then you can work on it off the car (at least in the case of the ranger, some cars have rotors that slot over the wheel studs and use the wheel to sandwich them into place), the rear ones may be more tricky as there are drum brakes and such in place and i honestly don't know if you would need to remove the axle to gain clearance to push them out, in any case 4 lugs isn't really that dangerous unless you're doing some craaaaaaazy stuff in that ranger

In the back of the truck I don’t have a hole for the rod to insert. Instead there’s a narrow slot that looks like it’s made for a key, perhaps a car key? Problem is a key doesn’t fit plus the ignition key is too short to be able to hold it while trying to insert. What’s the deal? My truck is a 2000 XLT

I have a Mazda B2300, which is very similar to a Ford Ranger in almost everyway, even the jack kit is the same, the same above the bumper location to lower the tire. However, I can't seem to get the tire to lower. I wonder why.
@kiyosenl.38892 жыл бұрын
Probably rusted in place, you can try soaking all the components in penetrating oil and reapplying 300 times over, or just cut the holder off and replace the mechanism

I have 1996 Ford xl ranger standard cap...it's missing the jack kit and spare tire carrier Any idea where can I find those and suggestions for universal stuff?
@kiyosenl.38892 жыл бұрын
Spare tire holder, you can probably find that on auto part sites, short of that eBay or even the junkyard, as for the kit, might find one in a ranger in the junkyard, or you could assemble your own, there are kits for all those rods for lowering the spare tire then just buy a bottle jack, take a look at safe Jack, they are pretty neat, but in all honesty you probably aren't missing it, on most rangers they seem to have hidden it behind the passenger jump seat, yet all the videos on it just show the location for this specific style of late model ranger

THIS FAILS TO TELL YOU! on my 1999 Ranger you HAVE TO HAVE the weird KEY to unlock the hole that the hoist rod goes into. This looks like a short ignition key mounted on a long black rod. Mine was in my glove compartment. I don't know where the factory puts them. maybe in the jack compartment?
@markbarbee34543 жыл бұрын
I sure wish my 2005 Ranger had that hole between the bumper and the tailgate. After 3 shops, one of which being the local Ford dealer, looking and not finding it, they determined that mine was not added from the factory by mistake. They said they could not drill it out because they have never seen one like that before, and would be worried about damaging my truck. I will have to drill the hole out myself.

Quick question all. Can I put a full size spare under the bed? The regular spare is like a trailer size tire, my full size tire is a p225 70/r14. I’m unsure if I can use a full size on the spare rim, which is also a 14, that’ll go up under the bed all the way.

You might want to double check the instructions you give at the beginning of the vehicle, you say downhill twice when chocking the tire in relationship to the nose of the vehicle.

2012 Ranger? 2011 was the last year, no?
@stevew95633 жыл бұрын
Partly right, last consumer model year: While among the highest-selling vehicles in the compact segment for nearly its entire 29-year production, an overall decline in demand for compact trucks led to its discontinuation after the 2011 model year (a short 2012 run was produced for fleet sales). On December 22, 2011, the final Ford Ranger produced for North America rolled off the Twin Cities Assembly line (as the final vehicle assembled at the facility)

You mentioned tightening in cross pattern but you didn't show how you work around them in that pattern in the video. Another thing is to check the seats for the wheel nut in the spare wheel are free on mud and grit as, if there, that can give a false signal when tightening, so once you move the car they work their way out and you then have a loose nut. Ditto for the wheel and the hub. Another thing to check is to make sure the spare does not have mud stuck to it as, if there, that can result in a wildly out of balance wheel. Always a good habit to check the nuts after a short drive in case the wheel has "settled" giving a loose nut e.g. the reason above. Check the spare is pumped up as if you have a soft tyre it is best to know. Handy to have a small tarp to lie on as dirt burrs, thorns, ants etc. can make the process more uncomfortable than needs be.
