Ford specifically states in its manuals to NOT use the differential as a jacking point.

I don't recommend lifting from the differential because you can dent, bend or break the seal gasket and it'll start leaking oil

FYI I did find this in my 2001 Ford Ranger edge manual: • Never use the differential as a jacking point. Any comment? best Perry

You can jack the vehicle up by the differential. For those of you that don’t know, or didn’t pay attention in the video, there is a flat area on the bottom of the differential (the “pumpkin” for those who don’t like proper terms). That flat area keeps you off the differential cover and there is no problem whatsoever jacking it up there if you hit that flat spot. The possible leak the manual talks about is not from the axles; it’s from you pushing on and distorting/crushing the differential cover; in other words, Ford states that in the manual because they don’t trust you to do it correctly and stay off the differential cover. I’ve jacked up three Rangers over the years a few dozen times and if you PAY ATTENTION it works without damage every time.

Both the factory manual and Chiltons state never jack using the differential. I'm confused.

I think it would be great if you guys created a sub- channel just for the series of years of ranger trucks and organized them in a way where it’s easy to just find repairs on ranger only. Thanks for all you do!

I tried jacking my Ranger from the front cross member and it crushed in. (too thin and probably weak from Ranger rust)). Also lifting from the the rear differential puts too much stress on the axle tubes.

Just a bit of info, my manual for a 99 Mazda b2500 rwd 4 cylinder says jack from the diff to change a tire. 🤷♂️
@TheKingOfHalo2 жыл бұрын
That's because the floor jack saddle can catch on the lower part of the stock diff cover and bend it. I have an aftermarket Dorman diff cover and doesn't reach as low as the stock cover so the floor jack saddle can't bend it.

@@1AAuto So, where does one put jack stands in my situation?
@1AAuto4 жыл бұрын
+Sean McGuirk You can jack it up on the pumpkin then put jack stands under the frame rails in front of the front leaf hangers. Then you can lower the jack to release the pressure onto the stands.

All vehicle manuals says don’t jack up by differential this isn’t the first time I’ve seen this channel send out false information an rangers also u always choke the shells the same reason u always set and brake on a hill u never trust a brake to hold on its own with resistance against shop safety 101
@kato1kalin4 жыл бұрын
That's odd because my 99 mazda b2500 is essentially a ranger and the manual says to jack from the diff. It's even got a slit that fits perfectly with the bottle jack that comes with the truck.
@danieldunn31413 жыл бұрын
They’re talking about with the safety jack that comes with the vehicle because it isn’t strong enough. A floor jack most certainly can lift a vehicle if it is powerful enough as most are. Ask any mechanic or go to any shop and see what they say.
@danoneill28463 жыл бұрын
@@danieldunn3141 Don't lift by the diff .. it can crack and or make them leak , only lazy fools do that . I don't own a mazda or a Ranger ... every car/truck I have had said NO . They do list all jack points .

@allrimmedout6 жыл бұрын
What about using the control arm hooks on the front of them as jack stand points? Aslong as your not replacing the lower control arms or shocks, the jack stands actually keep the arms up so your not actually having to have the truck sit so high if it's not needed.
@TheKingOfHalo6 жыл бұрын
Chris Rehbein I use the factory jack points on the control arms too. I don’t know why people refuse to use them as they’re very safe, and that’s where ford intended the jack stands to be placed.
