Can you advise if this is an automatic? From what I can tell Manuals have shorter cv axles.

Excellent "How TO", used to help granddaughter save BIG $$. I have not worked on a Civic before but have swapped a CV axle or two. Ran into one issue ... the axle did NOT hammer out so had to use a uni front axle puller. As tight as it was it would have never driven out. One other hint ... most looking up this vid for assistance will likely NOT have access to lift. Save yourself some time and jack the vehicle WAY UP from the git-go you'll need the extra clearance when crawling under to pry loose the axle from the transmission ... DON"T FORGET JACK STANDS ... Thanks again

I got it out laying underneath on the ground with minimal clearance by taking a small prybar from the 6:00 position and a mini crow bar (the ones an inch wide and 8 inches long with the 110 degree bend-the kind used to pry loose roofing nails) from the 12:00 position. I used the 110 degree bend side and put the edge in the tiny space and pushing the prybar from below and the mini crow from above it popped right out first time. It was easy to get the mini crow bar and my hand above it the axle too. This eliminates the pinch-point from below at the 6:00 position- created when using the prybar only- that stymied me for hours and hours.

Wish i saw this a week ago. Got the 32mm had to return it for a 36mm now the CV shaft cup on the passenger side trans output half shaft WILL NOT slide out. It's like something is stopping it, such as a clip or pin. It slides 1-2mm then dead stop. It's not rusted in.

Great job man!!! I proceeded to damage the wheel sensor and possible the axle screw by watching someone else "hack" video to do this job. The three (3) screws under the lower ball joint are a brilliant approach and very professional, but replacing the tire to remove the axle nut is not the best way (extra steps) to stop the rotor assembly from turning; I use a crow bar leveraged between two (2) lug studs to hold it against the ground. Thank you. I am actually pulling the engine and I need to make room to access the back (starter, etc.) of it.....

@TheRealoldcar2 жыл бұрын
Very straight forward and simple to remove the old seal with a long flat screw driver. Install with a round socket that will match the diameter of the seal and tap it in to the bore straight. On non si automatics, left and right seals are different size. The seals should be replaced if car is over 10years. Lubricant with trans fluid during seal install and shaft installation

Great vid but my 06 1.8l coupe is different as it has 2 pieces to it... 1 axle coming straight out of the transmission to a bracket and then a second “half shaft” at a downward angle to the wheel hub assembly. @manuelramos4608 Жыл бұрын
So you’re telling me I just can’t remove the two struts bolts & maneuver the knuckle around like that instead of removing the control arm from the ball joint? Cause it’s a lot easier to install the two struts bolts than keep prying out that control arm.

Try using a longer prybar being careful not to damage the transmission. The longer the prybar, the better the leverage

You got to go under the car and pry it out. I changed the drivers side today and took apart the passenger side but it got dark so tomorrow I will pry it out and install the new one.
@taterlysaladman9377 Жыл бұрын
that is the tough part. not designed to be easy, they should have put a divit in the casing for a tool to get under the transaxle easier. Best tool is a wide chisel blade with a 14 inch or so handle for prying. Don't damage the seal.
