So the three ways you did it I can do the first method to all the rivets and will be fine? I just don’t have the chizzle or the grinder
@spikeshartell46752 жыл бұрын
Just did this job and this video made it a lot easier to do. Now just have to go get her alined and maybe replace the front tires

You guys are a life saver. I need to perform this on my equinox. You guys made this video just in time. Thumbs up.

i need this done on my equinox as well. The boot has been torn and im getting a loud clunk noise when i turn the wheel all the way to the right. It just recently started making a pretty loud roaring sound when driving that i cannot diagnose. I can just hear it coming from that front end. Im just curious what your symptoms where for a bad ball joint?
@JoHondaRR-YT5 жыл бұрын
Update. My loud roaring noise was a bad wheel bearing. I installed both fronts today and no more loud noises from the front.

@@JoHondaRR-YT ball joint makes a knocking noise on rougher road... here in Canada in the winter it’s easy to diagnose.

You need a little Tap Magic to lubricate and cool the metal, and to use slower speeds with larger drills for more effective drilling.
@hazieh34555 жыл бұрын
For those of you doing this crawling around on your back and using jack stands, do yourself a favor...take the control arm off. So much easier to drill those rivets out!

This is a great video, I did start with the intent of replacing just he ball joint however after the aggravation of having to grind, drill, chisel and cut the old rivets out I returned the ball joint and just replaced the entire control arm. You save maybe $30 by doing just the ball joint but it’ll take you 5 x’s as long. Save the aggravation and just do the entire control arm with integrated ball joint but make sure to get the arm with the bolt on ball joint. This isn’t for lack of ability I’ve been a ticketed heavy duty mechanic for 20+ years; this is an example of picking your battles.

Another issue he's not running into is depending on the brand of ball joint you get like i usually use moog brand and the bolts that come with moog has to have the lower control arms 3 mounting holes drilled out to accommodate the bigger bolts that come with the moog branded ball joints
@BearCat4595 жыл бұрын
I got the brand Moog for my lower ball joints but the bolts don't fit. I was told to drill the holes out to 1/2in. What do you all think on this?

I couldn’t get the eye side of the cotter pin out after cutting off the excess so I just turned the nut and it sheered the eye of the pin off.

Next time save time by grinding the heads off the rivets and punching it out with a punch Use a grinder And keep the drill and your tool Box Can do it in half the time

And this chips the drill bits. Increasing size in such small increments

Hi, question? when you drilled the first hole and egg shaped it, did you by chance fix the hole or just throw a bole in it? lol

who makes your ball joint fork. i have used a couple and the forks just break. yours looks heavy duty. i know you can even get a ball joint fork for an air chisel

In terms of labor cost and time, is it cheaper to drill out and replace just the ball joint? Or replace the entire lower control arm which includes a new ball joint? What is nice about the ball joint only approach is that some have the grease fittings.

@spikeshartell46752 жыл бұрын
Just got done doing this job and to be honest, I don't think replacing the entire control arm would have been much easier. I used the X's with the cutting wheel and air hammer method. Didn't take too long and once the rivets we're out the rest was a cake walk
@liamwinter45125 жыл бұрын
By all that is holy, I hope mine arnt riveted.

Omg... Just buy the lower control arm with the lower ball joint installed. The lower control arm bushings are cracked just like those ball joint bushings I BET, then you will have new bushings for the lower control arm lmfao. Drilling out rivets lmfao wow
@charvakkarpe11 ай бұрын
It's painful to watch the drilling at such high speeds. You're wrecking the drill bit and heat treating the metal. Slow down the drill, use more cooling lubricant.
