You were so clear in your explanation that I swear I could perform that job. Then again, I watched a show showing open heart bypass surgery and thought I could perform that, too.

It’s great to learn how to do this. I changed one of my wheel studs 2 days ago since it broke. I think changing the stud is far easier than trying to fix the damage 🧐

Great video. Another tip if you don’t have that handy little triangle file to file the threads... I have used a small hacksaw blade gently which fits in nicely.

It’s great that you showed us how to repair the studs, but for a few dollars for 2 new studs, I would personally replace them not repair. Since everything is already open anyway. Thanks for the great video.

I used your video to replace all 4 brakes on my 2018 silverado yesterday, everything went smoothly. Now I'm here because I figured out the last guy who replaced my tires cross threaded a lug nut on my rear wheel lol.

Good job. I’ve replaced tons of these but always cool to see someone else do it.

I won't say why, but a triangle file is one of the first tools I ever bought.

Very cool the way you re-threaded that first one! I would've replaced the one that came loose since it's only a couple of bucks for a new lug bolt and the old one was already out, lol. Why were the lugs so green? What kind of rust was that?

I just don't understand what you were saying about the spacer. What can I use in between the lug nut and the hub when installing the new stud? Can I use any nut?
@davidb71803 жыл бұрын
It's only that easy to change a stud when it actually has the clearance to come all the way out. Sometimes it's like.......No matter how you spin the hub, how much you try to push that stud to one side or the other.... the stud just doesn't have the room to come ALL the way out. Sure you could get it partly out and then cut it with a grinder. But then reality hits. How the hell do you get the new one in??? There are many vehicles where the clearance for the studs to go into/out of the hub is short by 1/2 inch or so. Then you got to take the damn axle out. And if you are really lucky, you have to take the damn ball joint out to get to that one screw that's behind there so you can finally get the damn hub off. Then, you have to take the damn hub apart. And if you don't have a press, you are screwed. Then you gotta buy a new hub. Moral of the story: Do NOT screw up you studs!

Had that second stud happen (loose inside the wheel hub) with the wheel still on. Worst case scenario. It spun freely not allowing the lug to come off since there was no access to the rear of the stud, so I could not stop the lug nut and the lug stud from spinning together in tangent. Horrible situation

This will not work for the Honda Fit because theres no clearance to get those studs out. The entire steering knuckle must be removed with a press and a new hub and bearing installed. A big job indeed.

I think the only issue with that tool is the cost lol! Btw, we have a tool that does it better, let me know if you want to test it out!

Yeah not happy at all you created and never fixed the problem. The bent one , you took it to the wire wheel and cleaned it up!? That's not going to fix the Bend or the groves you never showed how you fixed the bend in it!!!??.?? Which happens to be my problem at the moment and what I thought this video was about
@teej31263 жыл бұрын
youre clearly suffering from brain damage the stud he removed was straight and was reusable as he mentioned in the video. He purposely bent a stud as an example to visually show when you need to buy a new stud if your stud is bent it cant be fixed (safely at least) only replaced. Must take you an hour and a half to watch 60 minutes
