Do you have any knowledge of why my explorer same year, 03 might be snapping off all 5 lug studs at the same time. Both sides, driver, and passenger. This has happened 7 times on driver. And now, 7 times on passenger. Probably over a 7 month period. I come from mechanic back ground, and still can pretty much handle quite a bit of newer car problems. But I'm lost on the studs snapping. My wife is the only driver, and has been for 2 years now. She is 59yrs. Any knowledge is extremely helpful. I'm worried about everyone safety. Thank You All, so much. Tim.

When I order the part for the rear passenger side does it need to be specified for that side or just that its for the rear?

About to try this myself for the first time. You make it look so easy. I'm pretty mechanically inclined. But I've never attempted anything like this.

Thanks for the awesome prices for the 2 rear struts for my 02 explorer...This vehicle should be totally recalled for constant major repairs!! The video was perfect to understand. Thank you for making it simple as possible. You saved me well over 450 dollars. I could not afford to have it done for me. It's my wife's vehicle and she thinks I'm smart now after fixing it myself. Boy do I have her fooled lol. I will definitely be buying from 1A Auto in the future. Keep the great vids coming.

Is this exactly how to do it on a 2005 explorer as well ? And did he loosen that bolt where the knuckle was or did it just fall off?

Do you not have to use a coil spring condenser which holds it and keeps it from exploding out after you loosen everything up?

I really appreciate the video. I have to replace my strut assemblies on the rear and front. I have a question though is the procedure for replacing the front assemblies the same as replacing the rear?

@@1AAuto ok so I have a 2004 Ford explorer 4.6 how different is it to change the struts on the front than it is the rear. I can get the strut off and the bolt out but the strut is so long how do I get it out? Do I remove the lower control arm? Thank you for the help. I tried compressing the spring but it still didn't help. So had to put it back together and still drives like im driving my truck on a slip and slide.

+wcubby22 You would have to remove some suspension components to allow it to drop far enough to remove the strut assemblies. We do not have a repair video for those parts. We're always cycling through common cars. We'll add this repair to our list! 1AAuto.com

@@wcubby22 you must remove the bolt to the upper control arm. If you cant get the strut out without removing the upper ball joint bolt then that means ur strut was already replaced - factory struts on these will come out without upper ball joint bolt removal, but ANY aftermarket ones will not and require removal of the bolt to get it out and a new one in. You may also need to remove the sway bar link to get the lower control arm to drop enough to maneuver the strut out.

Redwan Safi you don't necessarily have to but it'd probably be a good idea. you can get sway bar link kits at napa for $30 so they're not that expensive.

Hi great video. I ordered my parts from you. You state the torque specs for the rear lower bolts are all 110 ft lbs. I have a haynes manual and it states that its is 290 ft lbs. My torque wrench only goes to 250 ft lbs. Any advice? I also have an 03 Mountaineer.

+Brittany Gumm I would double check the manual, because 290 ft lb for a lower strut bolt is an awful lot.

The rear coil springs on my 02 explorer have broke and have been for a while. Due to some pretty major medical bills I can't afford new ones or the repair bill to have it done along with the front due to it sitting so crooked and it's no longer safe to driven. It looks like I can do it myself if I can locate some used ones at the scrap yard and the tools to do it. Wish me luck!

frigo frigo you should always get an alignment done anytime you replace or disconnect any part of the suspension or steering. new struts/springs will increase ride height which will affect camber.

Milly Badison you should always get an alignment done anytime you replace or disconnect any part of the suspension or steering. new struts/springs will increase ride height which will affect camber.

So you have the description as front strut, but in the video he states it's rear strut. Then goes about doing the rear.

@@1AAuto He's talking about where the control arm meets the body. Which is actually at 10:07. Also good video. I just bought wheel hubs front and rear along with shocks as well. Hoping to give a good review about it here soon.

+Eliazar Mendez 1. Take off front wheel. 2. Remove nut/castle nut holding tie rod end and remove cotter pin if equipped. 3. Either smack the steering knuckle to break tie rod end loose where it enters the knuckle or use a pickle fork(pickle fork is way easier.) 4. Put a wrench on jamb nut and a wrench on tie rod end. Righty the jamb nut and lefty the tie rod end to break their bond to each other. 5. Count the number of spins it takes to remove the tie rod end. 6. Put on new tie rod end and tighten the number of times it took to remove the old one to put it back in the same spot. 7. Tighten jamb nut up against the tie rod end. 8. With a wrench on each, the jamb nut and tie rod end, snug them together. 9. Get an alignment, done.

Independent rear for 2002-2005 or 6... actually called lateral link or rear toe compensator. need to watch build date and size of outer end. some are 15mm and others 17mm. if you have 16" wheels, most aftermarket ones will rub inside of wheel. I am about to install a set and hope they don't...
