Wow! Thanks for this video. Initially I thought it was an easy job when my Auto repairer told me. I yelled at him for the price he gave me, but watching this video, I became calm only hope he gives me the best job. Thanks once again.

Just did this repair. It helps a lot more to have air impact gun and puting a jack on the driveshaft side of the axel to start with. Thank you for the helpful video. And remember people, use thread locker and have your work inspected by a mechanic when your done!

Good video. I bought these arms from 1A last year & they have worked fine. I don't live in the rust belt but I suggest some anti-seize lube on all the small bolts ... the ones that broke. I use Permatex because it is readily available at auto parts stores or Amazon.

I used one of those ratcheted tie down strap to hold tension on the axle. You can ratchet the axle into position.

If you pull a trailer, swap in Polyurethane bushings. The Moog replacement rubber bushings lasted three months for me.

Thanks for the video, I'll be doing this soon on my 97 PF. I've found the arms on Amazon but some of the reviews say the parking brake bracket is in the wrong place on the 97, about an inch off. Any thoughts?

I understand using hand tools to remove the small bolts/nuts, but wouldn't an impact gun work better on the two large nuts? I have both air and electric impact guns (1/2") and will be using them on the penetrant-soaked nuts both front and rear if I can access them. Working on the ground with the vehicle on jackstands makes get the nuts loose with a breaker bar difficult. I did the upper control arms and had to use a breaker and piece of pipe as an extender. When the nut came loose, it sounded like a .45 caliber round was fired. Best sound I ever heard though knowing the nut finally moved.
@christ28382 жыл бұрын
I replaced the lower arms about 2 weeks ago leaving the car sitting on the ground. To crack the nuts I used a breaker bar and a scissor jack to apply pressure. No huffing and puffing, no strained shoulders and no issues at all. with jobs like this if you do not have the tools you must think outside the box. Going out bush soon so the upper arms will be done when I return using the same tecnique and a stout piece of hardwood cut (along grain) to fit the height ( using zipties to hold the timber together if needed). Nissan R50 with 2 inch lift and a dual shoulder (mine) replacement that is long overdue. Taking my time it took about 45 minutes actual working time to do both sides. I am really lucky and have a totally rust free undercarriage so no siezed bolts and no corrosion.

If I were the owner, I wouldn't be putting more money into that rusted out vehicle. I'd guess chasis mounts are also rusted out along with many other components. Nissan's are terrible for corrosion resistance. They're facing major legal action on Altima corrosion issues...rear lower links (control arms), etc. This repair had to have been quite expensive. .

What's the function of the rear lower control arm? My infinity 2001 qx4 sways sideways when going on uneven roads. Could you tell me what the problem could be? is it caused by the death sway bar?
@adrianw39856 жыл бұрын
You may have worn out bushings in the trailing arms. If they are worn out, and this is a common problem on these vehicles, it should solve your problem. The "death wobble" is common on these when worn out.
@ThisOldMan-ya4726 жыл бұрын
The rear trailing arms keep the rear axle straight and keeps the drive shaft aligned. When the bushings go, the rear axle moves about and changes the steering direction of the vehicle(known as Death Wobble). Many mechanics will sell you front suspension components first, which might be intuitive, but wrong. When the driveshaft is out of alignment, you will feel vibration and hear 'gear noise'. Jan 2019, I am installing the bushings myself (in a perfectly fine 2001 Pathfinder LE), and parts cost me $150. With Polyurethane bushings, the new bushings do not need to be pressed into the old trailing arms, so it is an easy install for the home mechanic.
