Awesome video. Did u bleed the breakes?
@jamesbradfourd72515 жыл бұрын
I believe you need to open the brake fluid bleeder valve when pressing the piston in to avoid the dirty brake fluid backing up into the system and causing damage to the ABS solenoid or pushing back on the seal in the master cylinder. Thus, bleeding the brakes would be involved here. See comments to KZbin video by klowny1969 ... kzbin.info/www/bejne/fF7MgYWlqLKrq7c

I think the rotor can be replaced without removing the caliper bracket. Very helpful video though!

I found the same thing on replacing the rear brakes on my Jetta. I took off the first caliper bracket and then saved time on the second by just leaving it on. It wasn't even that difficult to remove with the bracket attached. If you are doing the rears though DO NOT USE A C-CLAMP, the rear caliper pistons have to be rotated when compressing so just rent the tool from your local car parts store.

The caliper bracket held on by 18 mm bolts is found only on the cars with AFP (2.8L) and AWD (1.8L) ... according to p. 40-7 & 8 of the Bentley Service Manual for 1999-2002 VW Jetta, Golf, GTI

Nick Jones what’s the purpose of the c clamp? I’m planning to do that job on my car. Do I really need a c clamp? Thanks in advance

What about bleeding the brakes...?
@1AAuto5 жыл бұрын
+Christopher Cody Juett Thanks for watching! You would only have to bleed the brakes if the piston needed to be pushed back in, or you haven't changed the fluid in 4-5 years or so. 1aauto.com

great video... but not everybody has a torque wrench in their toolbox !

+Robert Walters Thanks for checking us out. A torque wrench is an essential tool if you will be working on your vehicle! 1aauto.com

True, I found with mine that just using the right size screwdriver and hitting it with a hammer to loosen any rust did the trick for me. Granted this won't work in all scenarios. But if you use a smaller or more pointed screwdriver you could easily strip the head and need to drill it out.

Guy: Use a SCREWDRIVER to pry the pads back into the piston Also the guy: Lower the vehicle off the lift and torque the wheels to 100 ft lbs. 😐
