@@chrisfix I just bought myself a Nissan Skyline ER34 GTT and unfortunately they're prone for having rust on the strut towers which mine unfortunately has but I have yet to know if it's only the top plate or if it's deeper, in order to restore the strut tower in the bay does a metal wire dremel such as the one you used in the video and sandpaper suffice? And I assume for sanding it would be working from a grittier grit to a softer grit? Thanks for your videos man as these are going to be extremely useful when my car arrives as it is in rough shape.

@@bobmill4824 The easiest way to spot a jackass on the Internet is when they use the word "genius". They tell people not to clean the engine bay because most people do it by driving to the self-sever car wash, spraying the bay with soapy water, power washing the soap off, and then immediately driving it off. You may have missed it, but that's not what he's doing here. He's going out of his way to protect the electronics from high-pressure water. If the electronics were so sensitive that getting any water on them caused a problem, everybody's car would break down if they drove it in the rain.

Dude, my wife and I both tackled our 2015 V6 Mustang this after noon starting at like 3pm. We still weren't done after we lost sunlight. Had to resort to flashlights to attempt to finish the plastic protection and still was only able to half ass it until almost 8pm. Granted, the engine bay has never been cleaned, but it looked roughly as dirty as Chris's mustang, so I thought we would have similar results. While it does look ten times better than it did, it's still far from looking new. We're going to repeat the entire process again hopefully next weekend and bust out some cotton swabs because there are SO many hard to reach spots that seem impossible to get to even with wire brushes, pipe cleaners, a ton of soapy water, and detailing brushes.

Great video dude. I'm a professional mechanic for Lamborghini and Aston Martin Beverly hills. I wanted to let you (and everyone else) know that in my professional opinion, from a mechanical standpoint, every caution and every recommendation was accurate. (About covering the engine, not spraying connectors and the components you mentioned with high pressure water, using the right protectant for plastics and rubber) seriously... well done. I learned a couple things too. :)

Hello, young man. I used your method to clean the engine bay of one of my cars. It worked very well. There were some things I did differently, though. The car is a 2007 Mercury Milan Premier V6 AWD. Removing parts from under the hood would have been very time consuming, so I worked around everything. I used Back To Black on the plastics, rubbers, and flat black components and Rust Reformer on the few rusty parts. The aluminum valve cover was a mess, so I did my best with a brass brush connected to my cordless drill and finished it off with that canned cottony polishing stuff. It didn't come out real good, but it's definitely better than it was. I also took the battery tray completely out which made a lot of room for cleaning and to lube my transmission shifter cable connection. I used spray on lithium grease for that and the hood release mechanism. It looks real good for a 10 year old car with 127,000 miles on it. Anyway, thanks for getting me going with your video.

I have seen this so many times and for so long (years) but it is a great, informative video. I did my engine bay by hand with a metal wire brush on the metal (intake manifold and other metal parts) and I took out my battery (cleaned that with a armor all wipes) and the tray cleaned that too. I also cleaned the fenders, the radiator support, and all I could with the wipes. Then I took off the light assembly (front and back) and cleaned them too. With all that work, I felt happy, the bay and car felt cooler, and It was easier for in the future to find any issues like leaks or damaged parts. Items I used: Armor All wipes Leather and vinyl spray cleaner 1 whole bounty hand towel 4-5 hours of cleaning and detailing. Great work Chrisfix

I always come back to the Ole Chris Fix videos 😊 just picked up a 2000 Ranger with 225k miles on it. You can guess easily that majority of the parts needed replaced. But i snagged it for $800, and it ran, had a new timing belt, and some other new minor parts. watched some videos, replaced the entire front suspension due to rust and bad ball joints, new spark plugs, wires, and ignition coils, new exhaust due to the old one having holes through it, and a new power steering pump. It runs and rides great now! Watched the coolant flush video, about to do that in the coming week, watching this video now to clean the engine bay because there's oil and dirt nearly everywhere, so I need to find leaks lol. This guy is easily in the top 5 tubers in this field; he's a pro. With that said, you can get the engine wet if you know what you're doing, and I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have experience. When you're wetting it, it's important to keep the alternator covered and something stopping the intake up. With the battery disconnected, you won't mess up anything electrical, but make sure you've blown out all the connection points with compressed air. Again, if you're experienced, you can use a degreaser, but don't let it dry, and make sure it's thoroughly rinsed. Soap and water won't clean everything. You will need something stronger sometimes.

Many years ago, I was running a CNC punch press. I'd wipe the machine down, removing oil streaks and the like, whenever I had time to do so. When the machine broke down, I called maintenance, and the team that came out had a truly crusty British tar for a mechanic. He was surly and taciturn, but he paid me a compliment I never forgot. "I wish others took such care of their machines. It's a pleasure to work on something so clean." Or words to that effect. He's gone now, but his sentiment isn't.

When I got my first car(About 1971) I was visiting my family in Wales and had a problem with it, my cousin was a ships engineer, used to clean engines and repaired it, but said to me "you shouldn't expect people to work on anything that you don't keep clean" or words to that effect, I've always, since then kept my car inside outside and engine clean, and when I take it for M.O.T feel proud when nearly every time the mechanic comes to me and tells me it's a pleasure to work on such a clean car, they expect a car over a certain age to be filthy and are delighted to see it clean.
