1din Android Radio - Renault Megane 1

In the past I made a video how to make low budget ($1) converter for after market headunit and steering wheel control of my car. Later I decided to make my "how to video" private due too many further questions which I was not able to answer because I am just a passionate geek and not definitely a professional... Well, the device I made is not actually a converter - my system is using just resistor series (basic electronics) which I can make my Android radio to understand as long as It have a "learning function" for any kind of resistance controlled SWC. Some of the SWCs have exact values of resistance (in the case they work with this resistor based system), and some of the HU are using ecact table of values for resistance - so you have to follow some datasheets and do some research according to your situation. Again, if your headunit or steering wheel control works in resistor mode. My "converter" (resistor serie) can use random values with "enough gap" between the values which allows my HU to read and understand which button was pressed - it have a learning function (as mentioned before).

Yes, it's approximately 1,5cm out than normal radio - it's because the display needs to open up freely.

Sorry for late response... Well, as I mention before: I made myself a small PCB with 5 resistors, each one has different value in kOhms. Each button belongs to each combination of resistors, which makes different value in kOhms. The radio has two wires (KEY 1 and KEY GND), if you connect them together, the circuit is closed, and the radio build-in app should learn, what action have to do... if you place this PCB between those 2 cables, you can then choose different combinations of resistors / different values by pressing each buttons. That means, the radio will have different value of resistance in circuit, each time you will press a button. Then is super easy to set up the actions in that build-in app.... I hope it was clear, feel free to ask me more...

No need to buy anything! You can build one by yourself - if you are familiar with soldering. You just need small piece of universal PCB (about 2x2cm) and 5 resistors in total. Total cost around 1$ !! ;-)

How you conect the cables in the back of stereo?? the stereo need to have a swc option?? the kOhms change for each stereo or always its the same?

The headunit needs to have SWC option with LEARNING FUNCTION - then you can use resistor serie as you want, because the headunit will learn each value.

Hola me podrías decir como has conectado los mandos del volante a la radio. Podrías hacer un vídeo o mandar fotos de las conexiones traseras.

The radio has 2 wires on the back (KEY1 and KEY GND). If you connect them together it simulates pressing a button. To tell the Radio which button you have pressed you have to use series of resitors - 5 in total (each one has different value of kOhms). If you insert one or more resistors in combination between this 2 wires, then it is easy to tell the Radio what have to do. Because the Radio has app, where you can save the value of each pressed button - each one has different value of kOhms in combinations. Just hook it up under the buttons and you have done.

You can find many similar radios on EBay, Aliexpress and so on.. Just use keywords like "1DIN Android Head Unit" and find yourself radio matching your neeeds. If you have original SWC (steering wheel control) from factory, then you can build adaptor for few bucks, as shown in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIOqe2qomJWSh8k Or you can buy one like branded Connects2 (but it is really expensive). Theese chineese radios have also possibility of IR (infrared) SWC control - without any wires. It is not as stable as wired adaptor, but time to time it is working :-) You can also check EBay, Ali for those. Chineese sellers sell radios together with this IR-SWC controllers sometimes. You can find packing with rear camera, gps modules, tv modules, wifi, and so on... theese radios are reallly cheap and full of possibilities - I suggest android radios.
