Are the 2 front smaller sized head bolts suppose to have washers on them or just the flange bolt itself?

@@secretaryoftips520 I'm pretty sure just the flange bolt. I'm out of town so I can't check right now.

Hi there love your channel I have a question I have a 1994 1FZFE engine I had a lower sounding knock and I pulled the oill Pan and checked all the rod bearings and they all look great wondering what else I could be missing.

Great video man! Getting ready to do one of these soon and just wanted to get a slight overview of what's involved. Is it possible to do this job without removing the head? I remember doing a few timing chains on the 22RE and i was able to do it without removing the head. Well I've done it both ways. But I've definitely been able to slip the cover out without taking the head off
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 4 жыл бұрын
You might be able to. I've never tried. Never wanted to risk the potential leaks. Unlike the 22re the cover is glued on. I think it'd be hard to not smear the sealer and cause leaks.

just adding a tip.... be careful with that oil float sensor. the float is thermoplastic and very brittle, and they can break or chip easily....so be careful taking them in/out and dont drop it. they can be difficult to find used, and are expen$ive at the dealer. Ive lived it and learned, lol.
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 5 жыл бұрын
Haven't made that mistake with the oil float yet, but I've definitely snapped knock sensors that were old and brittle. Thanks for the tip!!

@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 5 жыл бұрын
I could ship parts but I just get them from my local dealer as needed. There's likely online dealers that would be more efficient at it than me.

Hey Ryan, Would you say it could be done if you removed the oil pan while in the FZJ? Mine is leaking in the same place. Total hack job that was covered in oil when I went to check it out. I thought it was the pump seal and crank over a number of years.. Not true....
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 4 жыл бұрын
It can be done in the truck but it's not fun. You've got to lift the engine to get the upper oil pan off. And you're upside down trying to clean the mating surfaces well enough for the sealer to stick.

I have an fzj 80 I'm doing a head gasket on and the cross hatch is gone on the sides. Not really scored just..smooth . Do I need to worry?
@OTRAMM
@OTRAMM 3 жыл бұрын
How many miles are on it? Is it burning any oil? Usually we see them with even crosshatch all the way around.

This is a great video. Do you have a video of someone slapping the crap out of the person who designed an engine that you have to take the oil pan off to get the timing cover off? Just asking

your videos are excellent. on my 94 1fzfe, my timing chain & gear broke on the hiway. am doing a timing chain & head gasket per your video. was trying to line up cam marks but the cams are locked up & won't turn. would remove the cams but don't know how to insert the bolt to hold the spring loaded exhaust cam. basically the head is locked up but the engine crankshaft pulley marks will turn & align to tdc. any ideas ? all i can figure is bent valves even tho its supposed to be a non interference engine. was running great before it happened but had a litttle clatter. even if you can't reply thanks again

I've never run into a 1fz with stuck cams. The only time I've run across that was a severely overheated Honda head that warped enough to bind the cams in their journals. I'm pretty sure the exhaust cam spring can be reset if you remove the cam without the lock bolt. I've never done it though. It almost sounds like you cams seized and then the chain broke. Any oil pressure issues before they popped?

not that i know of. gonna drop the pan & remove timing cover & look at everything & crank shaft rotation. will have to remove cams & head & have a look. thanks for getting back & i'll let you know what i find. this engine has 185k miles. thanks again@@OTRAMM

gotta put on the dumb bunny hat. i forgot to remove the spark plugs. when i discovered my error i had already removed the cams but there was no damage to the bearing surfaces. head is off now & now waiting for valve spring compressor to. strip it down to send for machining. i guess then i'll find out if valves are bent but probably not & the cams weren't frozen it was just that i didn't try to force them to turn. well good luck to me, guess i'll see but there was no damage to timing cover. thanks for your fine work

Quick question. Does the timing chain on the iFZFE need replacing at certain intervals? Thanks

There's no set interval on them. I've never seen one wear out. I've only seen them break the guides.

@@Strong_Opinions I'd be concerned about hard chunks and shavings. The stuff in the bottom of this pan was coked up oil so not actual bits of engine.
