Beautiful- 27.75 carats (ish)? My daughter loves amethyst and wears a small cabochon ring I had made for her from a stone cabbed by my father when I was a boy in the 1970s… thank you for the inspiration- we have signed up for faceting classes at a local club and are going to get to cutting this box of rough stones my dad left in the shed!

@@joescarcella7842 hey all- surprised I got replies- my daughter- and that’s why I commented- anyone that can make a 14 year old for want to go take a class with her dad is a miracle worker! So many different types of stone- rubies and sapphire marked “Burma”, lightning ridge and coober pedy Opal, raspberry and deep red garnet, amethyst, Montana sapphire, tourmaline, zircon, quartz, peridot, and tons of different rough I can’t identify even with a local faceter, a local rock hound, and others helping… finally figured out one- slabs of jade green transparent/ translucent dendritic chrysoprase… that was a tough one to figure out! all from the late 70’s or before, all natural and untreated as far as I can tell… I remember him cabbing Opal as a kid… great memories- I can’t wait to take this box and make my own- looking to sell woodworking tools for a faceting machine currently! 😁 thank you for the inspiration- lovely stone!

@Nash Ville, even better a girl, wow I would probably fall over if my parents left me something like this. There is a lot of interest in woodworking tools at the moment, I hope you get that cutting machine & maybe together you can make a beautiful piece she might wear to a wedding (or other special occasion) one day. Wow, a beautiful cut, especially the frosted facets on the pavilion. It’s the pavilion that gives the stone its depth and colour, so often overlooked. Beautiful stone. Guessing 45.14 carats.

Thislooks like it took some amazingly precise work. You must be an utter master with your gem-cutting equipment. Do the in-between stages ever surprise or discourage you? For instance, if you have to do eight P4 facets on a stone, do you ever get through cut number five, look at the lop-sidedness, and wonder if it will actually turn out the way the diagram says it will? (I'm not going to guess, because my life is currently fluctuating; it would be a shame to win such a gorgeous stone, only to misplace it.) The illusion of a blooming chrysanthemum inside is amazing! I didn't know that could be created with frosted facets. The light diagram for this cutting pattern must look crazy!

Yeah you have to cut a lot of tiny Facets with a very very smooth Hand but it is possible👍 Thank you very much. Yeah sometimes and especially when i started with Faceting, the in between Stages can be a little weird, sometimes it looked like a complete other Design, but if you start to cut the next tiers you also start to realize how it works. With more and more experience and cutting, you can imagine the next tiers and knows that the final gem will look like on the Diagram🙂

I have read terms and conditions, am way over 18 (sadly), and I tried out my maths. Unfortunately music, art, gemology & reading is my passion. So I guess the stone to be 27.02 cts. I'm not able to convert that to grams, I just fried my brain trying to do the math on it and had to give up.
