Lab created is NOT fake. Absolutely wrong and misleading information. Like it or not, they are real. They have the same exact chemical composition, and appearance of mined stones. This irritates me because as a gem cutter and jeweler, I’ve seen so many people get upset when they learn a stone is lab grown, thinking it means fake. They are not fake. They are real. They are just not organic. You have state your terminology with more care and leave opinions and bias out of it. Are lab grown stones as desirable as a natural, earth mined stone? Not generally, but it may depend on the person. Are they worthless? Absolutely not. There are lab grown emeralds that can cost a small fortune just like organics. It entirely depends on the stone. It doesn’t start and end with “lab grown” or organic. There are a dozens of other factors that play into it just like any other stone. The type of lab grown, Chatham, Flux, hydro, grade, ct, eye appeal, etc all play an important role. And with organics it’s what mine, country, color, grade (some people won’t buy emeralds colored by vanadium), cut, ct, eye appeal and so on. I hope nobody yeets, or pawns their ring because they think their $5,000 lab grown Colombian AAA emerald is fake. And believe me, it happens constantly. People have this strange idea that lab grown means they are grown from scratch. That’s not entirely true. In fact, regrown is actually a more correct term in the modern era, as it takes very real earth mined organic emeralds, to create lab grown hydrothermal emeralds. Ive seen it done (it’s actually very cool), and they are technically regrowing stones. Think of it this way, I hand you an apple seed, you supply the dirt, water and care and grow the tree and pick the fruit. Looks and tastes just as good if not better then an apple you carefully picked off the tree in nature. An apple is an apple. As a gem cutter, lab grown stones are great to practice and learn on, and some result in a very nice stones. But just like organic stones, the source material matters a great deal. Anyway. This premise that lab grown stones are fake, or simulated needs to stop. Respect the chemistry…. PS. You really can’t know a stone from dunking it in oil or water. You can get an idea. But this test simply isn’t enough to say 100% if a stone is real or not, or determine what it is. You will find color zoning in cheap / low grade stones, but not in the highest grades. If you are only dealing with faceted stones, or cabs, buy a cheap refractometer and learn to use it. The more I watch of this video the more frustrating I am finding it. And look, I’m not saying these tricks are useless, it’s just your lack of experience and explaining things. No offense, but you should at least revise your title for the video. This is not an ultimate DIY test tutorial whatsoever. The only time I ever even do this, is if I need to quickly look for and sort out doublets, and I just use a glass of water.

Thanks for sharing. But why do so many KZbinrs use this same stupid song over narratives? Dont need music, or a “theme” over a person talking. It’s highly distracting to nutcases like myself. Maybe skip it next time.

Get the digital Ultra Tec, you can listen to any music instead of the stone grinding, just watch the digital number and cut way more accurate to 100th of a degree.

Helpful video, however the title is misleading. Sintetic or lab grown stones are not fakes. They are literally the absolutely same stone just grown in a lab and in most cases with less inclusions than the natural. So unless you are buying gems as investment you should go for lab grown ones. You get same quality for less money.

How many time do u take to mirror polish a facet ? I don't know if its my lap or my technique but it can take me 15 minutes more to polish a litle facet and i don't know if its normal ( i have a copper lap and path through 320 - 600 - 3000 - diamond paste polish ) on a aqua marine (i 'm waiting for my darkside with serium oxide hope this will go a lot faster )
