7 years on ? Still good info. Went underneath mine with can of 3 in 1 spray oil. Located gear shift area ( on my 2005 Peugeot Boxer camper). Liberally sprayed it then greased it all. Wow. Brilliant. Just so much easier to select gears !!! Thanks

This video maybe 7 years old but I've just followed his advice and WD'd the gear linkage on my 2015 Ducato van and it's worked a treat. I also WD'd my side door guide wheel and that's now smooth too :) Cheers for the tips and inspiration to diy it and save some cash... it's all too easy to sit around watching how to vids on youtube without actually doing anything!

Thanks a lot I'm really glad for your advice... I had sent my car to a garage, they called me and told me I had to change the clutch at the price of 14.000 dkr. It was hard for me to understand since the car had only driven 50.000 km, so I looked for another explanation and found your video, and now the car runs again and I saved a lot money😀 You saved my Christmas😀

Utterly brilliant. I have exactly this problem even though I spent almost £600 having the cables changed last year. Will engage a "Millie" and get to work on it. Many thanks. Love your style.

Thank you so much for posting this. I took my Citroen Jumper out this morning after a couple of months sitting on the driveway and it was very difficult to change gear. I followed your advice and the gearchange was transformed.

Tip: Your advise. Is correct and make sense. BUT a word of caution! ⚠ Pretty much all types of grease and oils act like magnet for dust /dirt /debris. Which is precisely the genesis of this problem! When driving in heavily dusty environment. One can notice the time between lubs will get shorter and shorter! How to solve it? Very simple. Silicone! Either in spray, but particularly in grease form makes for excellent lubrication, do not attack rubber parts AND do not attract dust. In fact it acts more like a dust "repellent". A very handy feature in this case. ;-) BTW Lubricating any moving parts is a valid tip for any mechanical components on any car, van, truck, etc. ;-) Cheers

We had a problem with our work van (Peugeot Boxer) which wouldn't go into reverse at all, or go across for 5th and 6th. We put it into our local garage to sort. They said that something had collapsed inside the gearbox, and they would need to drop the box, send it off to a specialist for 2-3 weeks to rebuild it and fit it back in. They quoted 800-900 quid! I wasn't convinced as the van has only done 65K so I set to work with the WD. Ours was really seized so it took a bit of levering with a screwdriver to get it moving enough, but eventually got enough movement to engage all the gears. I'd already done that before stumbling on this video but it's exactly the same job as you've done so well done for showing people how to do it. Unfortunately, I didn't have a 'wiggler' so had to keep getting in and out of the van but got the same end result. I too have used grease afterwards to stop the WD drying out too quickly. And we won't be going back to that garage again either! Cheers.

This is very good advice. Especially with the inherently leaky windscreen -> motorbay seal you should sort out with some silicone sealant, it is important to keep things cleaned and lubed inside the motor bay. Other possible solution for a sticky or weird gear stick action is opening the stick housing inside the cabin and tightening the screws holding the assembly together. Mine had come seriously loose over time (or perhaps they had not been tightened properly in the service..) and it made a world of difference to tighten them.

a heartfelt thank you, 5th and reverse were not reachable, I found your video, and applied wd40, with the help of a friend and a crowbar lifted the stuck selector and freed it, now have all gears and a smoother change.. ty

Thank you. I had a similar issue with my 96 Peugeot Boxer Campervan. I crawled underneath and located the linkage like in your vid and squirted load of WD40 all over. I didn’t have an assistant so I wiggled it about and after a while it suddenly freed up! Such a relief as I was on holiday at the time. I’m going to grease it up when I get home. Many thanks! 🙂

You have been heaven sent took my MH out this morning was worried about the gears so I’m going to try your fix. Just nee to get a Gear Wiggler.
@johnroots16115 жыл бұрын
I did this and it worked to a degree...... I eventually discovered that the gearbox mounting was sloppy, this allowed the gearbox to move a little. As the gearshift stick is fixed to the cab and the gearbox is fixesd only by means of the mounting to the cab, having movement between the 2 made the problem worse. Changing the gearbox mounting (10 minute job and about 25 quid) cured it completly and got rid of the previous clutch judder when initally pulling away.

Yes this works! Thanks for making the video. Harder to reach my gear linkage as it's nearer the back and centre-left so had to turn the wheel and do from underneath. Still couldn't reach to add grease so after WD40 used GT85 which has a slightly higher PTFE content - this will wear off with rain I guess but if anyone knows of a better product to spray in this hard to reach place - please let me know.

Motorcycle clinging chain spray could work good here. It has grease dissolved in a penetrating spray. The spray evaporates leaving the grease behind!

Managed to get a can of wd40, did the business as described and hey presto it's perfect ag again. Have the feeling that lanolin oil that we get here might last better without needing to apply grease.

Having a central locking issue ( incidentally right after I was placing king span insulation inside the rear door...) DONT!! I’ve pulled/ stretched a cable I recon and blew a fuse, only after I back tracked I had realised this. ( Central locking doesn’t work now ) when I replace the fuse, it does work ...only for a short time afterwards..until it blows again...I’m wondering if I have stretched a cable...also to add if I have blown the tiny door motor ( works the locking) and there’s a few of them. Do u recon the blown motor could be the fix / and or maybe a stretched cable/‘ I NEED help on this one....hopefully someone see’s this.
