I just bought the flame king refill kit and refillable bottles. They are 100% legal to transport, safer, and easier to fill. The kit itself cost me 35 bucks but in the long run I'm saving myself a ton of money on propane since I go throw a million of the disposables when I go out ice fishing.

Congratulations! You are the first person I've seen correctly understand that the difference in vapor pressure between the two tanks is what pushes the liquid transfer. And that pressure difference comes from the temperature delta between the containers. It only takes a couple degrees of difference to drive the whole transfer.

theMekanik yes! He knows the physics behind well! It’s temperature and pressure together playing the game .
@easttexan29334 жыл бұрын
It's not the difference in vapor pressure. It is simply the difference in pressures. The bottle must always have less pressure than the supply tank or no liquid will flow. As soon as liquid starts into the bottle the temp of the bottle starts dropping because the temp of the propane is at least a negative 44 defF. If you don't vent the bottle the two tanks pressure will equalize and there will be no flow.
@chrispierce29423 жыл бұрын
The temperature difference only affects the speed of transfer, itll still fill to full if they're the same temperature, just takes a little longer

You can get a full charge by burping the small bottles with a punch or drill bit for 4-5 seconds. do it with the bottle upright, depress the valve inside the threaded nipple, then fill again with the large tank. DO THIS OUTSIDE WITH NO IGNITION SOURCES NEARBY🔥, DO NOT MESS WITH THE VALVE ON THE BOTTLE ITSELF, it's a safety blow off valve that works opposite of the main valve. only do it 2 times, and weigh the bottle. it should be between 15-16 oz net, if its a little over, bleed it down with your punch. I use these 1lb bottles with a big buddy propane furnace, and it's nice to get a full bottle run without having to get out of a nice warm sleeping bag :o)
@notcharles6 жыл бұрын
VOLUME IS VOLUME IS VOLUME. PHYSICS. If the small tank holds X cu in there is no more room in the small tank than that. Period. A given volume of Room Temperature "air" will compress Y Percent at 30 degrees F. So, Freezing the smaller vessel will decrease the volume of 'air' in the smaller vessel (tank) by no more than Y Percent. NOTE that, when you release Liquid Propane into the smaller tank, the liquid turns into a gas and absorbs heat (gets colder). This acts to chill any 'air' in the smaller tank. So, freezing the smaller container should allow you to add Y% more liquid propane to the smaller cylinder (tank). However, as several folks with their hemostats, bent nose pliers and 'special tools' have pointed out - there is simply no substitute for first evacuating all the ''air' from the small cylinder/tank before or during the refilling process as that effectively removes 100% of the 'air' from the smaller cylinder/tank which, in turn, allows you to fill the entire smaller cylinder with propane. One thing no one seems to have done - weigh a brand new cylinder/tank of propane to see if it does weigh 16 ounces more than an empty one. Not that we don't trust a propane dealer.
@ZeroFuelRequired6 жыл бұрын
Yes volume is volume. And yes you could vent the air in the cylinder to get the maximum volume while filling. I on purposely leave that out of the video because is makes filling 1lb cylinders more dangerous ( not everyone would take proper safety precautions while filling & venting) . Is a few extra ounces worth the risk, NO. But I do on purposely leave that air in the cylinder as a buffer to reduce the chance of overfilling the cylinder. The cylinders hold 1lb of propane. By weight I've over filled a cylinder to 20 oz of weight, which is something I do not like to do. Too much in the cylinder can make them bulge ( I've had it happen) and they become dangerous. I vent them to a safe weight with a propane torch. I prefer 16 oz or less as a safety margin. Why push extra volume, increasing the risk for a few extra ounces? When you can safely fill 14 to 16 ounces and refill when you run out Over and over. I hope you understand why I fill the way I do, for safety. Thank you for your comment.

You can top off the underfilled tanks by placing them back in the freezer for a while but beware that you can very easily overfill the bottle this way. Just use the scale to check it and if overfilled, use the adapter on the bottle to carefully vent out the excess or attach it to a torch or heater and use it promptly.
@ZeroFuelRequired6 жыл бұрын
Andrew Macdonald I check the weight in all the tanks I fill and get them pretty close to a pound. I've overfilled tanks before and that's the reason I don't show refreezing the tanks. Refreezing might top it off but also has a high chance of overfilling and what I do with mine isn't crucial to have exactly a pound in them. You refill at your own risk and Topping off can increase the risks involved. Don't go topping off right away, get familiar with filling tanks and their weights. Then if you want you can refreeze a tank to top it off, although I don't recommend it. Thanks for your comment.

Good video. Another thing you could do for a big tank stand is just dremel a couple holes in a 5 gallon bucket and put the tank on the open end of the bucket. Might be a little more stable. (And if you don't want it as tall as the standard 5 gallon bucket, just cut the top 1/3 of the bucket off) (I haven't tried it yet, but I'm assuming the width of the bucket hole should be good)

The maker is Leonid Tsarev The app that installs in your phone won't open if you click on it. It is just what provides the actual link to your phone to control the camera. You open the camera app on the watch and control the camera from the watch. It might not be the best app in the world but it is the only one I could find that works to control the phone's camera and view on the watch what the phone is seeing. You can take pictures and video. It doesn’t matter which tank you’re talking about the pressure will be equivalent in a 20 pound tank or a 1 pound tank at the same temperature. As he noted in the link typical pressures are ~ 175 psi at 100° or 315 psi at 130 deg F. So either tank has to be able to take those sorts of pressures although I wouldn’t want to be a near a 1 pounder at 130°. It would probably be venting through the overpressure port

Shut the valve on the 20lb tank. Disconnect the 1lb bottle and adapter. Turn 20lb tank right side up. Reconnect adapter and 1lb tank. Then open 20lb tank value and turn everything upside down again and see if it continues to fill. If it shuts off, it's possible the 20lb tank you have has an additional safety inside to prevent propane flow if upside down or knocked over. I hope this helps.

You are so far behind on how to fill one of those tanks. Freezing the 1lb bottle is a total waste of time. No one fills these tanks like the way you do it anymore. We use a hose to connect the two tanks together and then just vent the bottle as you fill to keep the liquid flowing. The way you are doing it is old school.
