i was mesmerized by this one !! A lot of stuff i knew should be happening, but you pointing out the detail and the whys and alternatives was tremendously valuable to me. Thanks!

Hi Eddie, You broke it down so well. Your explanation was clear. Thank you for taking the time to explain this in a way I could understand. This video was exemplary, thank you. 👍😀

Hey Eddie, excellent video. One thing I noticed and it's a practice I like to is to mount the heat sinks parallel to an edge of the board that way you have the flexibility of either tying the heat to a chassis or increasing the size of the heat sink and also it keeps the heat further away from things like caps on the board. I'd be interested in what your thoughts are on this.

Thanks for your great question! I think that is a great idea - you can always put a heat spreader between the parts and the box. I actually place the SMD parts on the bottom of the board so that they can be mounted to a heat spreader or the bottom of the box. That way they can be placed in the circuit path and not placed with priority of the physical placement - if that makes sense.

All good points. Part 4 should show the output noise creating by not using balanced trace width at the switch node and random copper. I’m willing to bet the switching noise has to be in the hundreds of mv which can be dramatically reduced by care in layout.

Thanks for the great feedback! Yes - layout is critical, but I don't know if I understand what you mean about 'balanced trace width at the switch node' or 'random copper'.

Lots of good tips. With too many sharp corners, you get a squeal from the board when the electrons can't make the corners and they skid. Lol

so you don't think the summer intern that did the PCB design got a job offer at the completion of his internship.
@KissAnalog

Sad thing - they probably did get an offer - and now training the next intern. That is exactly how the 'ART' is being lost. No longer are there mentors that actually know something/anything - they simply cost too much for many companies. Sadly - I've heard that TI is one of those companies now - where the bean counters are fully in control... Just what I heard...
