this song is a great song for Pilate and Jesus Christ . dealing with the pain of condemning an innocent man - who did no sin nor committed any crimes . when Pilate finds no crimes against him , he was given a letter by his wife who told not to do anything to him because she suffered in a dream because of Jesus

I understand Pilate was a Roman, but he was sentencing Jesus because it was what the people under his governance (the Jews in that particular area) wanted, am I correct? Jesus was a heretic to them because he called himself the son of God. So Pilate's dilemma is to kill Jesus to keep the peace.

The historical Pilate (Pilatus) is quite different from the biblical. He was actually known to be a cruel man, he didn't have any problem with condeming people. It's said though that his wife Claudia had a dream about Jesus being the son of God.

I always viewed Pontius Pilate as more of a villain because he was the one who had Jesus killed but he really was willing to free Jesus but the people back then were cruel so they wanted Jesus dead so Pilate pretty much had no choice
