Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could kzbin.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

I live in VA and my favorite type of fishing is wading in the Potomac for Smallies. Absolutely beautiful scenery, keeps you cool, and catching one of the strongest fighting freshwater fish. Be careful out there Mike, I’ve had some close calls wading and the river really is no joke. I would love to go out with you sometime to catch some Smallies on the Potomac.

ive been wading in the potomac for 15 years now around Sandy Hook. Usually always catch some bass and sunfish with spinners but with live minows you can really get into some nice Channel Catfish

​@@pauleyplay hmm say overall the fishing has stayed consistent where I go. Keeper/big smallies have always been hard to get (granted I stopped using Hellgrammites which they love due to time constraints) but on a nice sunny day spinners like the Blue Fox can catch decent amount of smallies and sunfish if they are biting. Channel Cats are similar but I say ive caught more larger ones over the years and with live bait they seem to be always be biting in morning and evenings. I don't know much about the grasses to really say anything but I say river is cleaner based on sight and Ive heard its improved to a B- recently in terms of river health so thats good news.

Yeah, you were standing in a huge pile of stinging nettle when you nutcracked on the fallen log trying to get down to the river. It's fun isn't it? I trudged through some one day with a shortsleeve and shorts on. I wear pants and a longsleeve sunshirt now. I also won't wade that deep alone. Certainly not without a PFD on and most definitely not in a river of that size. It's easy to under estimate those currents. If you can't see the bottom it's pretty risky. Almost all my good smallmouth have come from topwater on days just like that. The jigs are close seconds, inline spinners do pretty well too. Love seeing you fish for these super aggressive smallies. Can't wait to see more, but stay safe out there.

How's it going bro? I guess my question to you right now doesn't necessarily have to do with this particular video, but something I still had on my mind, and especially with your videos in general. Do you use either the same gear or something similar for saltwater as you use for freshwater? I'm thinking of getting at least a bait-casting set up like you, I've seen several different KZbinrs use the same thing as well. I'm personally not too familiar with how to use them but with a little tutorial from KZbin somewhere else, I'm thinking I probably could master something like that as well. I love your videos pretty much the way you do it, but I know you only use one rod and one reel. Thanks for all the great tips, and adventurous videos! God bless!
