Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could kzbin.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

Been watching for a long time. Love your videos especially since I'm typically a bank fisherman myself. A word of advice coming from a career mechanic though, don't put batteries on the ground like that for a long period of time. The ground is a natural ground source for electricity to flow and will discharge the batteries if you leave them there to long. Always have the batteries on something non conductive even when they are stored for the winter. They will last longer other than that, HAPPY FISHING. It's June and I haven't even gone out once yet, so sad lol.

I keep seeing Americans catch pike and handling them strangely... We use the "Kieuwgreep" (or Gill Grip loosely translated) to handle these magnificant creatures. Our local fish vlogger Daniel Weyers has a great tutorial video for catching Snoek (Pike) and shows you how to do the special grip. We only have Perch, Pike, Zander, Catfish and Asp here as predatory fish we can catch. Were the Pike and Zander are our target fish (and large Perch, about 19 inch). And a tip for getting trail hooks out that the fish swallowed, using the gil grip you cab pull the hook out via the gills... The last Pike died, in case you are wondering...

Hi 1Rod, concerning your Pickerel / Pike my grandfather taught me that if you place your fingers over their eyes and just ever so gently press in on them, the fish calms down, it's like it almost completely paralyzes them. The easiest way is to lie them down on the bench or on the floor, belly down, when you do this, but it really does work. Then when you're done, you can release them with less harm to yourself and them and it doesn't seem to adversely affect them. Bent rods to you!
