Thanks for the idea! I just got some of those fire bricks to make a safe place to soldier, of all places I found them at a pottery store! I wanted to make a kiln for melting my scraps, these bricks ar fire rated and easy to cut. This is a new idea! Thanks again.

Wow, that is the coolest looking ring! I don't suppose a propane torch produces a hot enough flame to melt silver(?)... I would really like to try this some day, when I can afford more supplies and equipment. Thank you for all your videos. I have been learning so much from you!
@d.b.sorensen8277 жыл бұрын
depends on the propane torch try an orca / ez torch from otto frie
@Ken_Dalton5 жыл бұрын
Most torches will go up to 1,300c. Silver melts around 700c .. It's all about gettin lots of heat on to the crucible and keeping the heat on for a long time. When u think it's melted, its not, so go for another minute while swirling it around in the crucible.! Keep the flame on the spout while pouring coz it hardens almost instantly.. Hope this helps u out.. Be careful tho!

Soham…I love casting, but have not done a ring shank with a kiln brick. The idea is awesome. QUESTION: How do the bumps on the shank feel on the finger? Before I make one, I want to know I can wear it??? Or, that whomever I make one for won't feel discomfort. So, please, let me know. Thank you kind sir.

Hello Mr. Harrison, Could you do a tufa cast ring like this but show how to set a few small round stones in it. I'm just a hobbyist but my mother has a similar ring made of gold and I'd like to replicate it somewhat with silver and a few small round turquoise stones that I've collected.

Where can I purchase the fire brick? Thanks for all of your videos, they are easy to follow.
@bongoforest17 жыл бұрын
I researched this and found it's AAC; autoclaved aerated concrete, a special kind of concrete. You'll have to do a search for your local supplier. It's the air bubbles that give it this unique texture.
@dorothyspoole4367 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I'll try to find a local supplier. Perhaps Home Depot.
@bongoforest17 жыл бұрын
Dorothy, it's a specialized building material. HD and Lowe's don't have it. I got mine from a company here that actually makes it. Luck was on the side of those here that found it at a pottery store, for sure!
@theflamingpearl7 жыл бұрын
this type of soft brick is used inside of pottery kilns.....hence pottery suppliers usually have it in stock. some of the metal suppliers carry soft brick too in their soldering sections

about a 22 mm length of this soldered on top of a smooth ring would be lovely but it looks way too rough to be between your fingers especially during a firm handshake!
