Thanks for a copy of your race results for Sept 8 race. That's a lot of lofts (45) just on Oahu. Entered 872 birds clocked in 368 birds. With 504 MIA's that's a lot of birds unaccounted. You placed at that rank .... Can't wait to see GPS info ... Is Waimea up next .... :)

Great presentation and I love the music. Now, in my eyes the progression in three years you've progressed in the right direction. Improvements is a must. But, do not get down on yourself. You have given the birds what you felt was the best preparation time you could provide. Given the limited time of road training you can only do so much the rest is up to the birds abilities. Now, 2/8 ratio on return is not what was expected. Good that the cocks had mates to be motivated to come home. If your comfortable with your present line of birds then stick with them. Hope you have enough birds to breed. But, one should consider upgrading your line of birds. You've given the best you can. Move on learn from this time and get better. Good luck on your next race. Nice to see what GPS info comes back .... :) tf

It would not be worth it if it were easy! Homing pigeons served with distinction in war and thanks to the sport of pigeon racing their incredible genes have been maintained or improved. It is more than winning races. So be proud that you are part of something that keeps them relevant today and who knows; they may be called upon once again in the future - As a matter of fact, the US city of Fort Collins has a Pigeon Express which helps them provide processed pictures for their adventure seekers in a timely manner. Homing pigeons using specially designed Lycra backpacks fly the film (or SD cards) back to the Fort Collins outpost-a distance of 20 to 40 miles away - Much faster than driving! As a result, their clientele receive their pictures as soon as they return from their Rocky Mountain adventure.You will improve. Just stick with it and keep learning!

Wow. You really have lost a lot of young birds. (???) 2 return out of 8 sent? Holy cow! I would be upset if one bird didn’t return from our races. How often were these birds ‘taken down the road’ in training flights? I would have had them released in eastern Oahu many times and then graduated to western Molokai several times, then eastern Molokai several times before the season started. But giving advise to you in your location is like being led by the blind. I am ignorant of your special circumstances.... Island hopping being one of them. Know any pilots that could take your birds to Molokai? 🥴 You appear to be a really nice guy and your layout is terrific. I hope the pigeon god smiles on you in the future. 👍

Hi Gregory, thanks for your comment. I attached this linked video that talks a little more about the training the birds went through leading up to this terrible release. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmTdoWqAg9t1icU I did not participate in the 2019 young bird season because I was working out of town for much of the year and because after participating in 3 years of young bird racing in Hawaii I now realize how many birds are lost each year by everyone and the sad reality that many if not all of these birds do not survive long once lost. I still have and love flying my birds, just not that interested in risking their well-being for competition anymore. Aloha, Sean

Love your videos! Don’t get too down about missing birds, it’s not pleasant but the good ones usually always return. Those are the ones you want to keep :] regarding them coming back a little later, who knows..maybe you have medium to longer distance birds. They usually only start to show what they have around 300+ miles. Plus you’re flying over water, you need a very specific type of bird..flying over a body of water goes against the instinct of a pigeon. I wish you luck in the upcoming race!

How are you doing Sean maybe you should try the widowhood message is seem to work this trip and don’t get discouraged with the outcome of the race there’s always time to win there’s always time to lose it’s just part of the game. Record your training methods that you have used and the ones that were most positive for you keep that record the date and the weather conditions for that race that you do well continue training one of the messages that I did are used to give my birds free flight another words when they were separated hands on one side Cox on the other and I’m going to clean the loft I would release one grouping and let them fly and then have their food ready for them when they come back then I would release the other side which will be the hands and let them have free flight I did this every day and good or bad weather and you know the New York weather can be cruel but in my opinion this just makes the birds stronger they have more flight time good luck and best wishes from New York

Hi Sean, Dave from NZ, dont get too discouraged, it happens to all of us, its just finding the trigger that makes the birds work for you, I beleive you push the youngsters to mature too quickly, if you get the rings 2nd week of Jan, it means the birds are only just 8 and a half months old, and in my opinion, still maturing and growing, of course they will pair up but young hens laying, a def no no for me, and young cocks will be like teenage boys all testosterone only thinking with their dxxxks, I would also try sending tested birds from the other islands with your youngsters so there is no panik when they hit the water, ( alot of guys will tell you that the older birds will teach them bad habits, but if your on your game the old birds wont have any bad habits ) if the other guys are getting returns some more thinking required. Keep your chin up mate, love the video's.

Hey, one piece of advice, try buying 3 different body types of birds ( small, medium and big ), I'm guessing your birds are mediul/big, I can't really tell but my point is, climate changes are real and happaning fast, maybe the birds that used to work befor can't handle it anymore but its less likely to be that, all I'm trying to say is that you should have 2-3 pairs of new birds with different body types and see how their "kids" would do next year, if you have the possibility to get some it definitely won't do no harm, it's all about experimenting so you can improve. One more thing I don't know if your birds are long distance flyers or medium distance flyers, what I'd suggest is to have atleast one of each pair of flyers for next year, so you can see how they perform. PS: When i'm talking about long distance flyers I mean birds that fly 1200+ KM, again you are flying across water and it's definitely different but, experimenting won;t hurt if you can afford to, cheers mate and I really apreciate you making these videos, they are the best in terms f watching and you clearly know what you are doing, i always love to see a notification of you posting a new video, regardless of what happens, this is how racing pigeons is, it takes time to build a good family from which you can always count on to bring you happiness and performance.
@alohapigeons94406 жыл бұрын
Wow, that's great advice! I will try to do just that. I really want to start to building a good family of birds. It just seems the young bird season is so difficult that I never end up with much or any birds at the end of the season. I will find a way.
@awakaning2-dot-eu6 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you have a video up with ur reproduction pigeons or if you even have old birds that you keep just for breeting, or a vid explaning things about ur birds( and if you do I'm sorry I missed it) but regarless of that, try changing up the pairs for next year and try different combinations, something has to click eventually, again, if you don't have a vid showcasing ur birds I'd love if you could make one. I wish you the best of luck and hope you'll still be posting these vids I love them .

@alohapigeons94406 жыл бұрын
I will look into testing the droppings and definitely post the results. You could absolutely be right. One thing I notice in some of the birds is tiny white dots in the back of the throat even after using products like Enrofloxyn, Doxyvet, and Sulfa.
@kingziemac28596 жыл бұрын
After opening the bird’s beak, an important structure to look at initially are the bird’s tonsils. The tonsils are a visible part of the bird’s immune system and, as such, can react to potentially harmful organisms. Pigeons have two tonsillar areas in the mouth. One is small (about the size of a match head) and is located on the floor of, and just inside the opening (glottis) of, the windpipe (trachea). The second is comparatively large and includes approximately two-thirds of the bird’s soft palate. It is divided into two segments with a groove running down the centre. Flyers are familiar with the bird’s fringe (spicules) along the base of the soft palate. The tonsils form a triangle within the soft palate with the fringe forming the lower edge of the triangle. In health, the area is just discernible from surrounding tissue, being a slightly redder colour. When stimulated, the tonsils become inflamed. They become inflamed in response to disease and in pigeons the two usual problems are wet canker or respiratory infection. When inflamed, the tonsils become redder and swollen and so contrast more with the surrounding tissue. As the tonsils on the palate swell out, if both sides do so uniformly, the central groove becomes deeper. If one side enlarges more than the other, the groove will deviate to one side, with the swollen segment pushing across onto the other side. This swelling may cause the fringe to disappear. If associated with respiratory infection, then, as the swelling subsides, the fringe will reappear. However, if the tonsillitis is due to canker, sections of the fringe and, indeed, the tonsil itself will be lost permanently. With longer-term tonsil inflammation, small abscesses form, which appear as small yellow dots scattered through the tonsillar tissue. Microscopically, these consist of clumps of white blood cells, called lymphoid aggregates, and other inflammatory changes. Tonsillar abscesses are almost invariably associated with wet canker. When the disease is active, i.e. the trichomonad count is high, these abscesses are yellow and bulge out from the tonsillar tissue, and the immediately surrounding tonsillar tissue forms a red zone of inflammation. At this stage, as a consequence of the wet canker flare-up, the birds cannot perform. As the condition resolves and the tonsil is no longer inflamed, the abscesses gradually lose their colour, changing to white and then becoming a translucent plaque on the tonsil. At this stage the condition is no longer active and cannot affect race form. The spots may, however, take weeks or even months to disappear. Teams containing birds with white spots in their tonsil therefore tell us that they have had a wet canker flare-up in the past and alert us to the possibility of repeat flare-ups with the stress of racing ahead. Where individual birds are developing new yellow spots in the tonsil, the fancier should, if racing, organize an immediate crop flush or, alternatively, instigate treatment with an effective anti-canker medication hope this helps you out shaun and maybe gives you a bit of information of whats going on kingzie
@alohapigeons94406 жыл бұрын
I gave the birds Biremax in June as a precaution along with the other meds I listed above but I can't say I have seen yellow dots or the tonsils looking red or inflamed. Just tiny white dots and I have seen this in a lot of my young birds the last three years. I would defiantly like to figure this out if it is an issue. I could try different meds for canker and respiratory.
