Why not taking the ÖBB Railjet trains? Taking an EC train is always a bit of an adventure.

We took whatever train there was. The OBB trains looked very smart but that wasn’t our train. Not sure how you would know beforehand

That's a bit exagerrated. Between Vienna and Budapest you travel only 2:40. Who says, this is a nightmare in second class, did never experience a real nightmare. Ps. I am a Viennese and I went this way maybe 20 times in my life, all the time with second class.

It wasn’t second class that was the nightmare, it was the behaviour of people when we all became stuck in the corridor. I almost always travel second class, I’m quite happy there 😃

The train from Vienna was perfect, just the train back to Vienna was bad
