1st drogue chute landing with T2C 144 and Skyline drogue chute

First time using my drogue chute (manufactured by Skyline Flight Gear, Germany) with my Wills Wing T2C 144 hang glider. There was no need for using the chute in this particular case of course. Just gently checking the effect of the chute (with moderate speed) in oder to practice. Next time i will try with higher speed so the effect will obviously increase a lot.

Absolutely practice when you dont need it in a famailer LZ, in all conditions. (I use mine all the time) Then when you do need it, you can focus on the landing and wont be distracted from something new adding to a stressful situation. Well done!

Thanks for your comment. It was a moment basically without wind, but not downwind. There are two windsocks that can be seen at the left side during the final leg. The drogue chute continuing its motion is misleading, it always does, when the glider stops. Best, Ralf

Looking good. Which version of the Skyline harness do you have? I have ZeroDrag FullRace and the drogue chute pocket is also on the lower left but the attachment point is also in that pocket. What I see from your video is that you have attached it somewhere else? Is that a new version of the ZDFR or did you do some hacking? Also, the bridle seems quite long compared to what is recommended. How do you like so far the length of your bridle as it is right now? Thanks for sharing!

Dear Carlos, the harness is a "Skyline ZeroDrag Speed" (made in 2015). The drogue chute is attached to the slider itself. There is a kind of channel that is closed by velcro and opens up for the bridle the moment the chute is deployed/pulling. So the drogue chute is pulling at the centerline. (Currently the emergency chute is being packed and the harness is being prepared for the new season, so i do not have it at home right now.) The drogue chute is a "Skyline Dragchute 2" and the length of the bridle depends on the glider type and seems to be okay for my glider's keel length (and without elevator at the keel). The longer bridle results in less shaking of the drogue chute as i understand it and it works quite well for me. ​@@flyguy-hanggliding thanks for the info. I can see that the harness model you have is much newer than the one I have, so the pocket is the same but the routing of the bridle does not exist on mine. Also, the attachment point for the chute is inside the pocket and not on the centerline, so that's an idea that I'm going to try to adapt to mine. Does the attachment on the centerline look specially made for it or is it just a knot around the metal bar? Maybe when your harness is back you can make a picture for me? I know it's a lot to ask but I would really appreciate it :)

@@flyguy-hanggliding Thank you so much. My metal bar looks exactly the same so I can make the same attachment. The only thing that wouldn't be clean would be the exposed line because I don't have the velcro stuff that you do, but that's just the looks, I guess. Thanks again for this!

Schön aufpassen wenn du Gas gibst, denn dann geht es unter Umständen überraschend schnell nach unten (Luftwiderstand steigt quadratisch mit der Geschwindigkeit). Vorteil: man fällt runter wie ein Stein und kann extrem Höhe vernichten. Nachteil: wenn man nicht rechtzeitig abfängt scheppert's. Also erst mal nicht übertreiben und unbedingt rechtzeitig abfangen bzw. auf eine sehr kurze Ausgleitstrecke gefasst sein. Jetzt hat mir der Gengi einen extragroßen Bremser gebastelt, da ist der Effekt natürlich noch einmal krasser, aber auch mit ner normalen Bremse muss man schon ein bisserl acht geben. Ansonsten möglichst oft mit der Bremse landen, damit du viel Routine bekommst, das erhöht die Anzahl der dadurch jetzt sicher landbaren Plätze beim Steckenfliegen enorm und reduziert damit natürlich den Stress beim Einfliegen in bis dato scheinbar schwer oder sogar unlandbares Gelände. Letzteres gilt natürlich genauso für die Hanglandung. Diesbezüglich habe ich gerade gestern ein Kleinod, nämlich ein vollkommen geiles Video mit Didier Favre, gefunden, der war einer der Begründer des Biwakfliegens, damals mit dem Drachen und sicher der König der Hanglandung schlechthin. Allerdings hat er sich meines Wissens nach damit dann leider auch in die ewigen Jagdgründe befördert. KZbin: Hommage à Didier Favre (Sehr zu empfehlen und sehr geiler Film!)

Hi mal wieder rote Socke! ;) Vielen Dank für die Tipps! Ja habe tatsächlich mal gesehen, wie einer mit dem Bremsschirm quasi im 45° Winkel runtergekommen ist. Und war beeindruckt, dass er genau richtig (und stark genug) rausgedrückt hat. Ich werde mich da aber langsam rantasten, deshalb auch der erste sehr verhaltene Versuch... Letztes Jahr war leider eh nicht viel mit fliegen, dann hatte ich die letzten paar Monate noch gesundheitliche Probleme...aber jetzt geht es langsam wieder bergauf. Mal sehen wann der Schnee verschwindet und die Bergbahnen wieder offen haben... ;P Leider kann ich kein französisch und habe deshalb nicht viel von dem Herrn Favre verstehen können, aber Hanglandung kann er definitv schonmal besser als ich (habe ich so richtig bisher nur einmal gemacht) :P Herzliche Grüße, Ralf

@@flyguy-hanggliding Einfach "Untertitel" aktivieren, dann "Einstellungen" wählen, dann im Pop -UP-Menü auf Untertitel klicken, dann im nächsten Pop-Up-Menü auf automatisch übersetzen klicken und dann die Sprache Deutsch auswählen. Die Übersetzung ist zwar sehr lustig, das Kuhglockengebimmel am Anfang wird gleich mal wechselweise mit "Applaus" und "Musik" untertitelt, was ja genaugenommen gar nicht so unpassend ist und der Rest liest sich wie eine aus dem Chinesischen übersetzte Gebrauchsanleitung, aber im Großen und Ganzen müsstes du verstehen können, was gesagt wir. In meinen Anfangsjahren habe ich öfter Geschichten über den verrückten Schweizer gehört, der Wochenlang auf sich allein gestellt mit seinem Flügel in den Bergen unterwegs war und der war dann auch einer meiner heimlichen Helden, aber damals gab es kein KZbin und um so genialer finde ich es, dass man sich das jetzt noch einmal ansehen kann. Was der gemacht hat, dagegen sind die CrossAlps mit der Tüte ein betreuter all inclusive Kasperltheater- Kindergartenausflug. Ein Traum, aber für sowas hätte ich nicht ansatzweise die Eier.
