1st Gen RAV4 T-Bone - What The Insurance Company Said?

Finally have some info for you all on my 1st Gen RAV4 (1999) after being ran into (T-Boned!) by a potatohead driver. Insurance companies are in slow motion out here. It looks like it will be back in action soon, hopefully 👌 I have been scrounging around wrecking yards looking for parts.

I think you should get the rest of it painted Deep Jewel Green to match your new parts (I get that's way mor expensive, I'm mostly joking). I'm glad to see another 1st gen RAV4 owner keeping it alive instead of letting them die in a field!

Great video, you scored bigtime on getting the fender and door! Not surprised that you took the $4,800. Ever since I saw your video where you used rope to do the wheel alignment on that old SR5 Toy Pickup a few years back...I figured you were going to take the money and do it yourself! I was in a similar wreck. When the other driver got out, he was wearing plastic bread loaf bags for shoes. Needless to say, I ate the deductible on that one.

Getting them painted to match is really tough with metallic colors because it depends on the spray technique used = different light reflectivity. If you just keep a layer of winter slush on the RAV, it won't be noticeable.

Will see soon. I should have the parts back next week. The guy that's doing it is a master. He has my original gas cap cover and will do a paint match for years of fading. Fingers crossed 🤞 🍻🍻

Nice find on those parts. My HHR was sideswiped back in 2020 and the damage is more than it’s worth so it’s not getting fixed. Everything works fine the passenger side is just dented a bit.

So happy you are keeping the rav 4 on the road. I just found out my 99 rav 4 is rust free also it passed its inspection yesterday and they said its in pristine condition and i wasn’t expecting that 😂 Do you have any plans to put any rust protection on the bottom of the car? My brother keeps telling me I should invest in rust prevention

Wow, that is great news, and congrats on your RAV4! I've heard different stories about rust protection. Mostly bad. Oil spray and the like collect sand and other crap sticks to it. I'm going to leave mine as is. It seems to be doing great without any aftermarket products 👍👍

Great advice on grabbing parts while you can! My wife’s 1999 Rav was rear ended back in the day and the front bumper of the offending truck hit the rear mounted spare tire which resulted in the entire rear door having to be replaced! All because of this 5mph whoops!
