I love everything you have here, I'd love to see how it all gets scheduled for the week; it seems like it would be easy to get overwhelmed with so many subjects and curriculums. I tend to keep prek as shapes, colors, numbers, and single letter phonics, kindergarten and first grade I only do reading and math... and then in second grade my table starts looking like yours does here haha, so many goodies!!! :)

Hi! I'm really impressed how you pieced together a combo of FLL and the other language arts books, all of which we either have or am interested in getting, so kudos to you! Really enjoying your channel, thanks!
@aplacetonest8 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. I'm really enjoying the scripting of FLL, although I have chosen not to use the poem work that is included in the lessons. That might be something we work on later on but I didn't feel it was really necessary at this point. I'm loving the Scholastic Grammar book! It fits in perfectly with the FLL lessons and it's at her reading level. So many workbooks aren't very user-friendly to early readers but this one is just right!

I could watch curriculum videos all day long! Now that I've chosen our things for this year, I'm trying not to watch as many because it makes me want to buy what others are using. I've done that before and then I had too much stuff and not enough time! lol
@mamatofive18 жыл бұрын
+aplacetonest yes! That's exactly what I thought while watching yours. Especially the Bible curriculum, as all I have is a devotional book. I need to do more with that, but you gave me a good idea with learning the books of the Bible. I think my son is ready to memorize those this year. 😊 Any tips on how to memorize those? I remember learning a song with them listed...I should look for one.
@aplacetonest8 жыл бұрын
Would this work for you: www.kidssundayschool.com/362/printables/bible-cards.php You could also try: amzn.to/2bwQ39k I purchased the Route 66 workbook but we have yet to start it. I also REALLY can't say enough good things about the Draw to Learn Bible series. If you have kids that love to draw, it's the perfect combination of art, creativity and Bible. I hope that helps! : )
@mamatofive18 жыл бұрын
+aplacetonest Thanks for the links! I will have to check out the Draw to learn Bible stories. They look good! 😊 For learning the books of the Bible, I think I'll look for a jingle to learn with them 😄 My son is just starting to read, so having to read them would be a bit much...I think we'll just work on saying them for now! Thanks for your help!! 😀

I have all but science figured out for my boys 1st grade curriculum and was wondering if you would do a more in-depth look at the science you choose as well as the "Master List" you created. I would love it if you could share that as a PDF or something :) Awesome choices we love AAR and Math U See too. I'm also excited to try First Language Lessons. If you could share your L.A. I would love to if I can find the time. I didn't save the file so I might not have any extra time to do that but if I can, I certainly will. :) Otherwise, if you purchase those books I showed, it's pretty easy to flip through and match up the topic with coordinating worksheets.

So i know this can be terribly expensive but i thought i would at least mention it to you. BJU offers distance learning. It's online or DVD . You can pick and choose if you just want one or two subjects or the whole package. You mentioned being terrible at math...you should check it out. I really think that's what i am going to do. I bought TT 6 this year and it just doesnt impress me at all. I actually shelved it. There are a lot of good reviews for it and their are just as many bad. However BJU math seems to be really good with critical thinking included. Anyway, I always LOVE watching your videos and i love everything you have picked for 1st! I may copy you in a couple months!!! LOL thanks!!
@aplacetonest8 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the tip! So far we are liking TT but I've never used any other math program for my oldest so I have nothing to compare it to. If it ever stops working for us, I will give BJU a try. I have heard great things about it! For 1st grade, I'm really happy with everything I chose and it's been working out wonderfully! I think my favorite thing for her is All About Reading and First Language Lessons! Those programs are amazing and make it look like I'm such an awesome teacher! lol :)

Do you feel that the transition is pretty seamless from MUS to TT?
@aplacetonest8 жыл бұрын
We haven't made that transition yet because right now the only child using TT is my oldest daughter and since she was public schooled until 4th grade, I started her immediately with TT. My youngest daughter has used MUS and now I'm using a combination of other things with her for more practice. I do plan to start her on TT but not until late 2nd grade or 3rd grade. They do have placement tests on the TT website if you need to see what your child already knows and how it matches up with the TT curriculum. I hope that helps! :)

I have a question! getting ready to start our homeschool journey. my daughter is 6 and starting 1st grade. I'm having a hard time deciding on a program and level. she can already ready 4th grade level and has great comprehension. But, she does need to work on handwriting (neatness) and she can't list all the names of the letter sounds. she can read them just fine but I'm worried she will struggle with spelling down the road. our homeschool facilitator recommends all about reading, all about spelling and handwriting without tears. I'm worried that I will end up with 3(!) programs that my father (who is a quick learner) find boring. she is my only one in school but I also have a 3 yr. and 7month old, so time is a concern. Any thoughts or suggestions?
@aplacetonest7 жыл бұрын
Wow! That's amazing that she can already read at a 4th grade level! Given that she does struggle with basic letter sounds, she might do well with Handwriting Without Tears because it will focus on letter sounds and handwriting. I personally would hold off on AAS until she has mastered letter sounds. AAS does teach letter sounds but it teaches them alongside other spelling rules and concepts that might be overwhelming to her. I would start her with HWT and once she has mastered the letter sounds, move on to AAS which will serve as a letter sound review as well as introducing new spelling rules. That is my recommendation but of course, I'm not a professional but having used both of those programs, that is what I would do. I truly hope that helps and I wish you the best of luck in your homeschooling journey!

I love your curriculum! My son will soon be a 1st grader. I was wondering how you use the language arts interactive notebooks? Do you make copies of each lesson? Since it has the next lessons instructions on the back of each page? Thank you!

What I did was take a picture of the instructions on the back of each page and that way, when we cut the activity out, I wasn't cutting into the directions for the next lesson. Can I ask why teaching textbooks is the goal??
@aplacetonest8 жыл бұрын
It's mostly due to the fact that I'm terrible at Math. :) Even the methods that I know how to do myself, I struggle to explain very well. I like Teaching Textbooks because she watches the lesson and I don't have to try to explain it to her. Also, from a time management standpoint, it will be easier to not have to teach that subject completely on my own.
