My favorite use for silent imagen is to create the visual effect of my surroundings without me, so I can make myself "invisible"

Misty Visions invocation for Warlocks give them the ability to cast this spell at-will.

Combine with Minor Illusion's ability to create sound and you can make something unique. Though one thing I've heard someone do is use Silent Image to display a translation as they used Comprehend Languages for their party.

If you don't have minor illusion but have find familiar, you can also summon a raven and use their mimicry ability to supplement the image with simple sounds.

This is definitely a Green Lantern type spell. With imagination, it is limitless. Create the illusion of a Gelatinous Cube and have it move down the hallway toward the guards that are approaching you. Or make a ghost, which are see through anyway. If you have it as a warlock invocation, and can use it at will, use it to create a map of what you just scouted with your familiar, or create holograms of people, places and things so you don't have to come up with the correct descriptive words. Use it to hide that pit or create a false wall to avoid pursuit, create a false doorway (possible Wile E Coyote), rearrange the lever markings so the bad guy pulls the wrong one. Create darkness, or glowing arrows to mark a path. Make that chess set and move the pieces with your mind. Get free beer by casting an illusion next to the patron that hasn't noticed the barkeep just refilled his glass, you grab the real one and leave the illusion behind. The sillier ones are better suited for the minor illusion cantrip, but hey, if you are really, really thirsty. Just need a green ring and a way to make the images solid.

Bard... "falls asleep" next to the mantel and slips into the shadows from the fire. He casts this spell and slips out the back door under the cover of darkness.

Just last session I used this combined with minor illusion for sound to create “helpless victims” to lure a gnoll war party into a ravine where we ambushed them.

I wonder if you could use this to make a Map. Or even a slight lag-real time map. Using a familiar + sight. WHile alternating Actions between animating and familiar vision. To show your group what you're seeing
@chrisframe22274 жыл бұрын
I have used this to show other party member what I see when scouting with my familiar. I might not have the skills to identify what I am seeing but they do.

This spell is one of those that might make that eldritch invocation feat better for your Variant Human/Custom Lineage than magic initiate or ritual caster. A level one spell at will at level one is so powerful concentration or no.

I reallllly want this on my Kobold ARtificer , along with Move Earth and the minor illusion cantrip. Why? TRAP! I want to, with a minute of free time, prepare a room. random holes+small walls of loose earth, to make it hard to move, with one solid path of pocked (i.e. small foot iszed holes all over the place) path leading, with hunting traps in it as well, then cover that pocked trapped path with the image. Even once they know its fake.. and know its fake. it is still blocking their view from the traps and the pocked terain. Slowing them down and reallyo pening up the kill zone. I mean this only works if they have to get through the area, but its nice to have as a noption. but sadly artrfiiers don't get it.. But..magic initiate maybe~ but i'm not sure if "see through" is "see through the illusion" or literallly "see through it and no longer actually see the illusion covering whatever"

I like where your heads at! I think Magic Initiate would be a great way to go!

@@ChancesSpellbook Yep. I also realized that Kobold that gives +cha (instead of +INT that I wanted) gives 2 cantrips 1 lv1 spell from Sorcerer l ist. Sooo that is a way to get it early. I do start with lower INT but I can get a lot from it!
@ChancesSpellbook5 жыл бұрын
@@zwordsman I think that's a very fair compromise!

@@ChancesSpellbook fun fact. This idea works way better as a Kobold Warlock. Which I now -upon refinding this old post-- really wish I'd made my current one a kobold haha. Well assuming that varient thing with kobold is actually a thing. Like I can't find it on dnd beyond but can find it on other sites. but don't see it in books i have.

Really like your videos, liked and subscribed:) here are a few illusion options that come to mind, I also play an illusion wizard. One could create the illusion of darkness to be used as cover in battle, infiltration, or other sticky or silly situations. This would work well from far away, work poorly in Melee. Create several pillars, perhaps one for each party member if you have a small party. They can see through the pillars but enemies on the other sides can’t. Use them as full cover and pop out when it’s your turn. Enemies unfamiliar with the terrain are unlikely to see through it and would have to use an action anyway to do so. Archers would likely not try to fire through the pillars and would try and reposition. Create a running stampede of copies of yourself while you escape a situation to have enemies pick poor targets... works extra well with mirror image. With a lvl 6 illusion wizard, these illusions can shift and change as things happen: The crowd of copies of you can warp into a terrifying shade... or the copies of you can either and die as they disappear one by one and only “you” are left a corpse on the field... while the real you escapes or repositions for another attack. - the darkness cover can shift into other more useful effects for the situation... as it “dispels” it’s revealed you have a guard or important figure hostage and you threaten to kill them... then mold your illusion again back into the “darkness” or cast it for real so you don’t need to keep up the charade for that long and everyone thinks they shouldn’t approach since you have this “hostage” in there... I have many more of these but those are a few, and using major image you can make things reeeally crazy.
@camillecutler68682 жыл бұрын
Use it as fog. The text states, "If a creature discerns the illusion for what it is, the creature can see through the image". It also states that "Physical interaction with the illusion reveals it to be an illusion, because things can pass through it." However, if the illusion is of something that can be easily passed through, then I would rule that this part of the text is not true. Therefore, this can function the same way as fog cloud, but your party can make investigation checks, something that the enemies may not even think to do. This leads to your friends all having advantage.
@Gmorktron Жыл бұрын
Have you ever been in fog? You can feel the stuff. It's water. But the idea of it ain't out of place for the spell... just won't hold up to physical interaction.

Here's one that can be a bit of a morally grey use, but depending on the circumstances, it can be funny. Cast Prestidigitation on someone to sully them in "blood", use Silent Image to conjure a "dead body" and then alert the authorities that "insert npc here" killed someone

How about I create a blue fiery creature that dances around as an entertainment piece to distract NPC's. Or combine with minor illusion to first lead with a dragon roar and sounds of a small dragon approaching, then cast silent image to have the dragon walk around the corner. (could even be cheeky and warn someone beforehand that you'll sick your pet dragon on him.)
