We decided to head out to Joshua Tree, California to go climb for a few days. I thought, what better time to make a video about my newly acquired roof top tent!

Could just leave the handle in and use that to keep the tent tight if you need by tying it in place somehow

Our maggiolina has ZERO give.... I think that is mostly due to the crank method vs the gas struts... ours is over 10years old and works like new.

That is great to hear! My Airtop was only about 3 years old and I was not a fan. The Maggiolina is by far a better product in my opinion.

Nice and complete video. I have the same tent and same little holes in the canvas. Did you find a way to cover them?

I was told that there is extra material underneath the mattress which is to be used to patch any holes. Pretty much, you can use a weather proof adhesive to create a patch. Make sure to patch both the inside and outside of the tent where the hole is.

Nice video! Did you get any response from Autohome? I also have an Airtop, and i wonder if it is possible to tighten it up a little more?

I talked to them and they gladly sent me out some fresh shocks. It helped a lot. Keep in mind though, these tents will never be as steady as a wedge design like the Columbus design simply because there are zero hinges to keep the tent from swaying.

Check out the maggiolina if the sway bothers you. Ours is probably 10 years old and has zero give most likely due to the crank method vs gas struts

@@juliand2107 my maggiolina has ZERO sway because the tent uses a crank and no gas struts so you can tighten the side walls all the way... Ive had it in 50MPH with no issues (I think rated for 75mph?).... But the fabric really doesnt move... The worst part is the zippers flapping in the wind which I need to remedy by wrapping them in velcro or something to keep them from clanking.

@@xtralnd I don't think that's the maggiolina model. that appears to be the air top strut model. the maggiolina has a crank-up system and supposedly is much more study than the strut model you have.

@@checkeredflagfilms Yes, those are nice! My only gripe with that design is I'm not sure I would like those metal pieces at my head and feet. They are definitely heaps more sturdy than my rtt though.
