Fantastic collection of photos! However, it's difficult to tell if any of these are truly the oldest in each state.

For sure. But as for archived in the Library of Congress, these were the oldest I could find. But no doubt there could very likely be older photos from each state.

I got to add one of my ancestors from here, or confirm rather, in my family tree. Great fun.

Wonderful collection of photos, but I doubt these were all the first photos taken in each state. The process was pretty much every where by 1848 or so , which makes me question some of the first photos being in the 1860’s. None the less , I think it would be hard to prove yeah or nay. Great stuff though !

Yes, who really knows for sure? But as far as my research, this was as accurate as I could find for actual film photography. But no question there were forms such as Daguerreotype, (which was early 1800s) Heliography, camera obscura, etc. I even suspect some very old "etchings" may have been some form of photography method, (rather than an illustration) that got lost to time. I plan on doing a video on these old techniques. Thanks for the input. Be sure to subscribe and watch my other videos.

There were photos taken in Indiana before 1863. Not sure this was fully researched. Just briefly searching an Indiana history book on the shelf here, I find a photo from 1857 of the Vallonia Craft Tannery. It should be easy to find older ones with just a tiny bit of looking. These are merely the oldest photos they have, not the oldest that exist. My grandpa had some daguerreotypes that I believe were older but can't prove the date.

Great collection of photos, however, there is no way to know if any of these photos are the oldest in any of the states.

I suppose know one can know for sure if there is some photo that's older, if it was never found. But these for sure are the oldest documented photos from each state documented in the Library of Congress. 100%

@@MysteriousMrS1 Yes, thank you for reinforcing the point I made.

@@garymorris1856 I think you might be missing the point... try finding an older documented photo from each state and get back to me.
