There's way better winning jobs than this one to see. He had to stretch the bejesus out of the back third of the shoe to make it long enough to be adequate to fit. He would have been better off utilising more material from the toe & leaving the heel area , where the horse needs it alone.

Our Farrier Donnie Cunningham back in the day used to turn'em out like that every time he came out. Even having to corrective shoe one to boot.

I wonder where they get a bunch of horses that are so chill you can do this. In a room full of people with a bunch of yelling and horns going off.

Typically the region of where the contest is, the association will reach out to a farrier in that area to see if they have a group of horses that would be suitable for these conditions. It’s amazing how resilient horses are and willing to put up with the things we humans do!

Horsey knows he's getting shoed by the best so he behaves. His new shoes will be the envy of all the other horses when he gets back home.

I mean most show/race horses are used to that environment, it could be a bunch of them.

I tried to shoe a horse once. You are basically carrying some of the horse's weight when you hold it's foot between your knees. So, it is a very uncomfortable position to stand in. My thighs gave out pretty quickly.

horses survived 1000s of years without these

Horses didn't have concrete, metal, and other artificial surfaces for 1000s of years, either.

Some*** many did not including all the horses on the entire continent that they are originally from Nature is rough and wild. Many creatures today only exist because of captivity, and as time goes on, this will be true for more and more species. If theyre worth the effort, even if we have to manually preserve and provide, it would be a shame if we were to lose such creatures, even if they are no longer cut out for the wild or survival

Too bad horses ain't arachnids, they'd be more stable with twice the legs and farriers would make a mint.

It's timed. Because it's only good work if you're hurried like a cooking show.
