John is the greatest male vocalist of all time. I’ve always loved this song and the meaning behind it and heard it done so many times by so many people, in stage performances(carousel), Elvis Presley and other but this is my favorite version of all. John just puts so much emotion into not just this but every song he sings. This is the annual Melbourne carols by candlelight held every Christmas Eve. Epic.

You'll Never Walk Alone is a show tune from the1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel. The song was famously recorded by the British band Gerry and The Pacemakers in 1963; later on was adopted by the Liverpool Soccer Club as a tribute to those who died during the Hillsborough Stadium collapse in 1989, it is sung before every home game.

You totally picked up on the vibe and beauty of Carols by Candlelight. It is an Aussie tradition and most towns will have a small version of this event at Christmas time. For the local events it's a great opportunity for church groups and city bands / choirs to perform to an audience. Organisers will sell real or fake candles (usually for charity), and you sit on a picnic blanket singing along to carols and waving your candles which become really beautiful as the sun goes down. The major events in the state capitals attract our famous singers (including John!) And are great to watch on TV. I always have it on Christmas Eve while I wrap the kid's presents! Loved your reaction ❤

Carol’s by Candlelight is held in every City and town in Australia. It is always outside because Christmas is Summer here and every child and adult has a candle in a cup. This is the biggest one we all watch on TV at the Melbourne Myers Music Bowl with the Domain also on TV and great in Sydney. This one is always on Christmas Eve where smaller towns have them some days earlier. My kids all grew up going. The three standing behind John are his backup singers. Lisa on the right, Miss Venetta and Lindsay. All are talented enough to make it alone but they wouldn’t leave John. Miss Venetta is from America and she sang with the greats plus appeared in I think 2 movies. She now lives about 3 hours South of me on the East Coast and still teaches voice. Thank you for this because John deserves it and so do we. If you have some time watch a video called Finding The Voice which isn’t very old and is on KZbin. It will tell you some of what John went through to get to who he is. John sang 2 songs in a row this night both beautiful. Mary’s Boy Child was the first song. Watch him sing Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar. Or some opera with Anthony Warlow from the Main Event concert singing Grenada, you will also see how funny John is. Or slow and beautiful from the same concert is Please Don’t Ask Me with Olivia Newton John or Burn For You written for his wife. You have over 5 decades of number one albums.

@user-iq3mp5zo8z Hi Eileen, I do know White Christmas and South Pacific...great movies. You grew up in a great time for music and cinema. You are lucky to have experience such great entertainment. Happy early birthday. My mom is 80. She is in a few of my videos as a guest. She is the reason I love music so much. Our house was always full of music 🤩💓

I dont know when Carols by Candelight moved to the Myer Music Bowl, but the Bowl has its own history. A gift to Melbourne ftom Sidney Myer.....head of the Myer family , Myers Dep't Stores and other companies, and himself a violinist. First, Mr Myer organised free concerts by the MSO for the people of Melbourne. When visiting the USA he visited the Hollywood Bowl.....then built his own bowl as a gift to the city and people of Melbourne. The Sidney Myer Music Bowl is a stage complex covered by a large sail like roof, shaped a bit like a horn speaker.....to project sound forward to the audience out in the parkland. Built in Kings Domain, the northern section of Melbournes Botanical Gardens, it is close to Alexandra Ave and the Yarra River ( southern border of the Melbourne CBD ). The venue itself is open air with a 10,000 people capacity, 2,000 seated, the rest expected to bring a blanket and sit on the grass. When The Seekers were in their prime, 1967, they performed at the bowl and half of Australia turned up to watch / listen. An estimated 200,000 sat in the park and listened. Media reports had the numbers from 500,000 to over a million, but the official consensus is only about 200,000.

Hey Kent, how cool is that! What a great gesture to build the bowl and amazing what it has led to with all its uses for music. I love this 🤩

You MUST listen to the original version by Gerry and the Pacemakers. He made it the anthem for all English football matches! I doubt if a game is played when the crowd do not sing it. This is not a bad version but to my mind you cannot beat Gerry Marsden' s version.

The official video of G and P is Football fans and Liverpudlians singing (silently) to it. There is another video showing Gerry singing it. Both are interesting😊

Yep, John Farnham does quite a nice job, as he always does .. But G&TP's version is simply unmatchable and iconic .. The song was originally from the great Rogers and Hammerstein musical "Carousel", but I prefer Gerry's pop ballad treatment of it rather than the musical theatre versions.

@wayne_twentyfive Excellent, Wayne! I didn't know it came from Carousel. I do recognize the name...don't think I have ever seen it though. I will have to give G&TP out too because a few people mentioned that it is really good. 🥰💜
